Caleb Joseph homered twice to lead the Bowie Baysox past the BinghamtonMets by a 6-2 score Sunday night at Prince George’s Stadium. The B-Mets rolledinto four double plays and suffered their sixth loss in the last seven games.
Forthe fourth straight night, the Baysox drew first blood. Rhyne Hughes ripped adouble off the right field wall to start the rally in the second againststarter Darin Gorski. Joseph capped a lengthy battle by sending the ninth pitchof his at bat over the left field wall for a two-run homer. He followed theround tripper with a solo bomb to lead off the fourth.
Thingsonly got worse for Gorski later in the fourth. The lefty issued four walks andallowed another run to score without giving up a hit. The southpaw finished theinning, but did not return for the fifth. He allowed four runs on five hits,struck out five and walked six, a career-high. His streak of quality starts wassnapped at five.
Binghamtoncould not get the offense going against Bowie starter Mike Wright. In his thirdstart since returning from the disabled list, the righty kept the B-Mets incheck for five shutout innings. He allowed two hits and worked around a walkand a pair of hit batsmen.
AdrianRosario kept the B-Mets within striking distance after taking over in thefifth. The righty posted three scoreless innings, taking the game into theeighth.
Meanwhile,Robert Hinton took over and posted two scoreless innings before the B-Metsoffense cracked the scoreboard in the eighth. Juan Lagares started a two-outrally by tripling to right. Reese Havens brought him home by dumping a singleto shallow right.
Withtheir lead cut to three, the Baysox fought back in the bottom of the eighthagainst Robert Carson. The lefty walked one and allowed three hits, capped byTy Kelly’s two-run single.
Downby five, Binghamton staged a comeback against reliever Clay Schrader. Therighty recorded just one out, allowed a single and issued three walks. He waspulled after walking Francisco Pena to force in a run.
WithWilfredo Tovar at the plate representing the tying run, Kyler Newby enteredfrom the bullpen. Pitching for the second straight night, the righty inducedTovar to bounce into a game-ending double play to collect his seventh save.
Gorski(5-5) suffered his first loss since April 26, while Wright (1-3) collected hisfirst Double-A victory.
MikeBaxter went 1-for-3 and was hit by a pitch in his third rehab game withBinghamton. Right fielder Buck Britton robbed him of an extra-base hit in theeighth inning on a leaping catch at the wall.
