The
Mets got swept today…Ouch, but on the bright side they aren’t dead yet. Losing
Gee and Santana has really thrown the rotation into a state of flux and it’s
obvious they need help. The offense however has been actually pretty good
during this stretch scoring about 5 runs a game so once the starting pitching
rights the ship a bit it will be safe to say that the Mets will start winning
games more consistently. The Mets have shown a lot of character throughout this
skid and they don’t give in and that has been one thing most fans can respect
and while it seems like the Mets are dead in the water October isn’t hear yet
and they will start winning games again.
There aren’t
too many options to fix the bullpen at this point to be honest. Brandon Lyon is
a Blue Jay and Brett Myers is a member of the White Sox now and lastly its
unknown if the asking price on Houston Street is too high so it’s fairly
reasonable to believe that the Mets will eventually call up Mejia and Acosta
and Elvin Ramirez is already up along with Egdin. Unfortunately that means
someone has to see the dreaded DFA next to their name and it might be Ramon
Ramirez considering he’s been struggling all season long and could probably use
some time in AAA to find his mojo again. I’m also really starting to feel bad
for Lucas Duda, He’s a 1st baseman trying to play right field and it’s
obvious that it’s not really working out and on top of that he’s been having a
tough go of it at the plate too. He’s
giving his best effort out there but maybe he could use some bench time to sort
things out (the Kirk treatment) and then The Mets could run Valdespin, Torres
and Kirk in the outfield for a few games.
As far
as the rotation goes...Matt Harvey has been announced as Thursday’s starter
against the Arizona DiamondBacks so hopefully he can come out and have a good
debut and see where he goes from there. I don’t think it hurts his development
at all coming up to the majors now…It’s the dog days of summer, the team is in
the hunt still and he’s billed to be a future top of the rotation guy so why
not let him feel the pressure now as opposed to 2013? It will be nice to see
some young blood infused into the starting rotation and the trade market for
starters isn’t conducive to keeping prospects so I believe that calling up a
few prospects for a cup of coffee might be the best option…and who knows maybe
in August I’ll be ranting and raving about how good Harvey and Familia have
been and that they saved the rotation..It’s why we play 162 games...you never
know what can happen.
Also would like to give a shout out
to STEVEN MATZ. He’s had tough time over the last few years with arm injuries
and he’s finally healthy and pitching and doing a hell of a job...truly an
testament to his will to live his dream…Mad props man
In conclusion the Mets aren’t dead
yet and they will turn things around somewhat and I’d also like to apologize
for being Debbie downer in my last few posts...I’ll do my best to not let the
angry fan take over for the journalist anymore.
A famous man said “it ain’t over till it’s over” I embrace these words
so LET’S GO METS!!
