T.J. Rivera had two hits and scored a run, but the Mets fell 10-2 to the Bradenton Marauders in the opener of a three-game series on Monday at Digital Domain Park.
Blake Forsythe had an RBI groundout in the first inning to score T. J. Rivera to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.
Bradenton scored two runs in the second inning and never surrendered the lead.
Danny Muno recorded two hits while Travis Taijeron finished 2-for-3 with a walk.
Yohan Almonte suffered the loss as he was chased in the fifth inning. Almonte was charged with nine runs and seven hits in 4 1/3 innings while issuing three walks and striking out two. Bradenton pulled away with a five-run fifth inning against Almonte.
John Church tossed 2 2/3 innings and allowed one run and four hits. Jeff Walters pitched two scoreless innings in relief and gave up one hit and a walk.
The Mets host the Bradenton Marauders on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Digital Domain Park. Rafael Montero is the scheduled starter for the Mets.
