MLB –
Washington sent LHP John Lannan to Syracuse (IL).
MLB - Mets:
Jeremy Hefner
will start Wednesday. Miquel Batista cut. Thursday TBA
Jay Jaffe - This 7

Q – Harvey and Wheeler ace potential or 2 and 3 stuff?
A - Big gap there. Wheeler > Harvey for me.
AAA – Buffalo:
LHP Garrett Olson gets
the start today, his 19th of the season. Olson was moved to the bullpen since
the break and has delivered three scoreless relief appearances. The southpaw
has not pitched since April 17 when he tossed a pair of shutout innings against
the Mud Hens. Olson faced the Knights on May 11 in Charlotte and struck out a
season-high 10 in a no-decision. He worked a season-best 6.2 innings and
yielded one run on four hits.
INF Oswaldo Navaro has hit in five straight games and
eight of his last nine. Since June 28, the infielder has averaged .321 (9-28)
with three doubles, a triple, two home runs and eight RBI.
Tim
Smith -
Let the Matt Harvey watch begin. The Mets will most certainly need his
arm at Citi Field, if for nothing else than to appease a restless fan base that
wants the team to remain viable and make a playoff run. That will be tough to
do as the 8-5 loss dropped the Mets (47-47) to .500 for the first time since
May 4. Santana’s shutdown comes at the worst time — 10 days before the trade
deadline and with the Mets starting the day seven games down in the NL East and
4.5 games back in the wild card. They need all arms on deck
Sunday – L, 8-10
This went to hell early
with Garrett Olson and Dylan
Owen giving up 10 runs in five innings.
The Bisons almost came
back, led by 3B Zach Lutz (3-5, 1-R, triple,
RBI, .296).
AA-Binghamton:
LHP Darin Gorski (5-4, 3.93) makes his 17th start and
second against the Bowie Baysox. Gorski took the no-decision in his last start
against the Trenton Thunder on July 16. The lefty allowed four runs (three
earned) on nine hits over six innings in a game the B-Mets lost 6-5. Gorski has
taken the no-decision in his last four starts, including his first game against
Bowie on June 28. He surrendered four runs (three earned) over six innings in
an 8-6 B-Mets loss.
RHP Mike Wright (0-3, 7.27) takes the mound for the fifth
time for the Baysox. He lasted just three innings in his last start against the
Erie SeaWolves on July 17. The South Carolina native was tagged for five runs
on seven hits in his third loss. Wright started the season with the Frederick
Keys (High-A), going 5-2 with a 2.91 ERA in eight starts. He was promoted to
Bowie in late May. The righty made two starts before being placed on the
disabled list. He returned on July 12 and has made two starts, each three
innings in length. Selected by the Orioles in the 3rd round of the 2011 draft
out of East Carolina University, Wright is in his second pro season.
Sunday – L, 2-6
SP Darin Gorski had another of those almost meh AA
outings that he seems to be suffering through this season. It’s definitely not
what he went through last season at St. Lucie: 4.0-IP, 5-H, 4-R, 6-H, 4.13 for
the season.
RP Robert Carson gave
up two more runs in one inning and raised his seasonal era to 4.93. This is
going to be one of many tough decisions to make in the off-season.
DH Reese Havens 1-4,
.230.
2B Wilmer Flores 0-4, .308
A+ - St. Lucie: -
Yesterday’s game was suspended after five innings, but after
today’s game was also postponed, they just made yesterday’s official
A – Savannah:
-
Sunday – W, 5-1
SP Domingo Tapia blew them away… 7.0-IP, 1-H, 0-ER, 8-K…
we all remember what Frank Viola said about
Tapia just a couple of days ago. There is no reason to rush this 20-year old,
especially since he can pitch under the tutelage of Viola for the rest of the
season. Still, if the Clones make the playoff, he’s be there.
CF Gilbert Gomez - 0-2, 2-R, 2-BB
A-Low – Brooklyn:
Sunday – W, 2-1, 11
innings
Lots of great pitching…
SP Hansel Robles shined (8-IP, 9-K), John Mincone took care of the middle (3-0-IP, 0-R),
and Tyler Vanderheiden mopped up.
Big game for 3B Dimas Ponce – 3-5, 1-R, 1-double
SS Phillip Evans 1-4, .235
CF Brandon Nimmo – 0-4, .225
Rookie –
Kingsport:
Sunday – W, 6-5
SP Corey Oswalt (I
still love this pick) finally put up a half-way decent outing – 5.0-IP, 2-R,
5-H, 4-K, 0-BB.
C Tomas Nido – 2-4,
1-R, double, .282
SS Gavin Cecchini – 0-1,
.242
Rookie - DSL
Mets:
off

Regarding Tapia, do teams demote players to boost a playoff team?
not usual, but Fred considers Brooklyn a much more important team than Savannah... players have been sent there many times before
