He's back -- 4 years/$110 million. Multiple sources confirming it. Now let's see what else they plan to do now that the excuse of waiting for Cespedes is off the table.
I'll pick up the gauntlet of what some would characterize as negativity and I would say is cautious optimism. It is indeed good news that they got Cespedes, but there are many other issues to address and I'm afraid that they may be one and done in terms of major transactions. Prove me wrong, Sandy.
Keep in mind.. Even If Alderson were to be one and done after Cespedes, the Mets would still be in a much better position than they were during the off seasons 2, 3, and 4 years ago. Looking forward to seeing where this off season ends up.
You usually want to give the kids a chance. Why not give Nimmo/Lag time in CF, and Robles/Gsellman/Lugo in the pen, a chance? Or Flores/Conforto at 1B if Duda struggles?
Our Defense was much better this year with Walker, Cabrera and Reyes in the IF. Whom do you want to replace?
I'd like to improve at C if we can, though IMO it's too soon to completely give up on TdA and Plawecki. If a top C is available without surrendering top prospects, fine. Otherwise, let ours have until July to prove themselves.
You make a good case about using the current talent in the Mets system in a platoon situation.
It also makes a stronger case to trade Bruce for two to three prospects to replenish the system.
My only problem with your plan is catcher, thogu I would consider giving d'Arnaud one more shot before the all-star break. I think Plawecki is nothing more than a AAAA player.
The new excuse is they can't do anything until they settle the outfield situation. In the interim all the good players are coming off the board. I'm betting at Thanksgiving Sandy Alderson eats his turkey, then his mashed potatoes, then his stuffing, then his green bean casserole. Obviously he's not capable of multitasking.

Hurray!
Now time to remake the rest of the outfied.
Move on from Granderson & Bruce.
Decide on who new centerfielder is.
Bruce, Lugo and TDA for Salvedor Perez, do it you know you want to kc.
Happy days are here again, the skies above are clear again. 2017 looks mighty bright right now. And giving up Fulmer? Worth it.
I like it. Not sure if it is too much for us to give, but Sal was great against us in WS.

Now get jbj for CF

What are the "many other issues" we need to address?
Bullpen, centerfield, catching, defense, speed...

It's nice to see a little let up on a need for a new manager
Right on, Mack. That will wait until our 1st loss, even if that occurs in May. 😈

Too soon to limit Plawecki, Mack. The question now, barring trades, is whether to keep him as Rivera's replacement or send him to Vegas.
I'd send him to Vegas and let him learn to play 1B and increase his value.
And the unmentioned factor is our new Catcher coach, who has a good reputation. Let's see what he can do with what we have before giving up on them.

I never understood why fans think ballplayers can learn to play new positions at a professional level when they are in AAA baseball.
The new excuse is they can't do anything until they settle the outfield situation. In the interim all the good players are coming off the board.
