The Braves have announced a one-year deal with free agent righty R.A. Dickey. The contract, the value of which remains unreported at this time, includes a 2018 option.
Atlanta has long been said to be seeking multiple starters this winter, with the team interested in top-quality arms but also seeking to limit the length of any guarantees. This contract seems to accomplish what Atlanta hoped to do with at least one slot, plugging in a sturdy veteran without committing to a lengthy deal.

I expect RAD to have a bounce back year.
It's hard to comment on whether this was a good or bad move depending on what it cost the Braves to make it. I'm guessing somewhere in the $6-$8 million range is what did it. If so, how would you compare that to $10 million for Bartolo Colon?
I'd take Colon in a heartbeat.
Agree with Mack...Colon is a versatile craftsman. Rickey suffers the occasional hanging knuckler
Many of my Mets fan friends think another starter isn't needed. I pointed out to them that even the only "healthy" member of the fab five -- Thor -- has bone chips in his elbow. That means you're going into the season with Lugo and Gsellman as your ownly completely healthy starters (and even Gsellman has an issue with his non-throwing shoulder). They do need a Colon type but I think if they wind up somehow retaining Cespedes, he's a goner unless they find a taker for one of their three veteran all-or-nothing lefty sluggers. Of course, being the Mets, they will probably deal away Conforto instead.
