OPEN THREAD - New Year's Resolutions

Okay...

Here's your chance to put down on paper your 2020 Mets resolutions.

Who...

will be the Mets MVP?

will hit the most home runs?

will have the highest batting average?

will pitch and have the most wins?

will be the biggest surprise (high)?

will be the biggest disappointment?

How many wins will the team have at the end of the regular season?

My primary resolution is to write more for Mack's Mets in 2020. After a long period of time without a laptop, I treated myself to a Chromebook for Christmas and now I'm ready to contribute more.

Who...

will be the Mets MVP? Jacob deGrom. I think we're about to see the third HOF-quality season from Jake.

will hit the most home runs? It's going to be Pete Alonso, of course, although I really want to say JD Davis will be a dark horse contender.

will have the highest batting average? The Squirrel is going to top .310, although I may be the only person on Earth that believes Robby Cano has one last good season in him.

will pitch and have the most wins? deGrom

will be the biggest surprise (high)? Cano. No one expects a thing from him, and I really see a .295/.350/.480 season in the cards.

will be the biggest disappointment? Nimmo, who I think is a good backup outfielder and character guy for the clubhouse, but doesn't field enough for center or hit enough for left field.

How many wins will the team have at the end of the regular season? 88 - but BVW still has a few decisions to make. There will be changes before Opening Day

Who...

will be the Mets MVP? PETE ALONSO

will hit the most home runs? DITTO - I'LL SAY 50

will have the highest batting average? SQUIRREL - .315

will pitch and have the most wins? RICK PORCELLO 15 WINS, TIED WITH JAKE

will be the biggest surprise (high)? CESPEDES - WILL HIT 40 HR'S

will be the biggest disappointment? FAMILIA - BACK-TO-BACK BAD SEASONS

How many wins will the team have at the end of the regular season? 93 WINS

JACK, LOOK FORWARD TO THE WRITING FROM YOU!

I think your #s are a bit high for Cano, but I can see him close to those if healthy. A Rod hit 33 HRs in a bounce back season at age 39, I agree that Cano can get up and go.

Easy to forget, but Cano was .284/.339/.541 in 42 second half games, so maybe you are pretty spot on about Cano, Jack.

Mets MVP? The Squirrel, of course.

The most home runs? Hard to argue with Pete, but Conforto could be a dark horse.

My resolution is to be more patient and look at the big picture, instead of overreacting to a bad series or two.

The highest batting average? The Squirrel and he might challenge for a batting title at .330 or so.

The most wins? A resurgent Noah with 15, followed closely by Stroman.

The biggest surprise (high)? Porcello pitching more like he did when he won a Cy Young for Boston, then he did in 2019.

The biggest disappointment? Not clinching the NL East until the end of September (I kid, I kid). Actually, I will vote for Wilson Ramos, but
it will be due to injuries (old catchers are not a good bet to play 130 games in a season). Brodie needs to upgrade his backup!

How many wins will the team have at the end of the regular season? 90 and a wild card (health permitting). The division will be a dog fight
and I think any of the top four squads can win it in 2020.

1. I intend to stop arguing with Tom about his far out prospects.

2. I intend to vote.

3. I live in South Carolina, so I I intend to vote twice.

4. I intend to use SpellChek more often. (did I spell SpellChek correctly?)

5. I intend to never read anything Andy Martino write again.

6. As I have done for the past 10 years, I will offer the Mets our site to be their official blog.

7. I will try and write more original posts like I did when I started this blog.

8. I will live for the day that John From Albany stops plugging Alfonzo.

9.. I will pray that all anonymous posts will use either their name or some handle.

10, And I will live til the next ball drops in Times Square.

Resolutions:
1- I will bite my tongue when Tom mentions those other guys.
2- I will read every one of Mack's pre-draft profiles.

Predictions (less certain than above).
JAKE wins 20, ERA,2.50, 3rd consecutive CYA,
MIKE C hits 2 in the last game of the season to eclipse PETER A 45/44 in HRs.
Surprise R.CANO leads NYM with a .321 BA
Dussap SQUIRREL hobbled by nagging injuries plays less than 60G (up side: JD shines at 3B & clubs 35HR, DOM & YO share LF and club a combined 50 HR)

Happy New Year all.

Hobie, good stuff, indeed, but no squirrels allowed on the injured list
