OPEN THREAD - If You Where Steve Cohen... part 2

Would you do everything you can to sign catcher J.T. Realmuto?

Or...

Would you do everything you can to sign pitcher James Paxton?

I will start...

Paxton is a great pitcher and I would love to have him on my team, but given a choice. there is no question that Realmuto will be a target in 2021.

Mack, unless Francisco Alvarez is ready to pull a Juan Soto in 2021. Who knows if he can fly thru the system in 2020. Doubtful, but it would be cool to see that. If not, yes, Realmuto.

Interesting......depends on who we keep in the rotation moving forward (Stroman, Wacha and Porcello are all short timers and Noah isn't signed long term, either).

We actually have some catching prospects, as Tom stated.

I vote Paxton, but only by a small margin.

Both would be better, of course!

I don't like long contracts. If Alvarez progresses this year and is within a year or two of being ML-ready, I wouldn't give Realmuto 4 or 5 years.

I'd rather trade for a catcher with 2 years or so left on his contract.

Mike -

you make a strong case for pitching... and I love prospects.... but I first want tested true talent.

We need a catcher in 2021. The best out there is J.T.

If Alvarez is a slam dunk, I can use him to secure a top pitcher.

JT is my choice. Hopefully he doesn’t sign an extension with the Philties this offseason.

My guess is this will be a moot point since JT will probably sing long-term deal with Phils before free-agency.
