Mack - Draft Thoughts - Jim Jarvis, Dylan Lesko, Termarr Johnson, Brandon Sproat, Brooks Lee

8-9-21 - prospects live-

Jim Jarvis can be a menace. In 214 plate appearances last season, he struck out just 16 times. His 7.4 percent K-rate ranked among the best in the SEC. But folks aren’t talking about Jarvis like maybe he deserves. After all, his .237 average with 0 homers certainly isn’t a line that jumps off the page. But Jarvis ran a .250 BABIP in 2021, an outlandishly unlucky rate, especially in college baseball.

8-9-21 - Joe Doyle @JoeDoyleMiLB

The 2021 MLB Draft was chockfull of hitters with immense swing-and-miss concerns. The 2022 MLB Draft looks much healthier in that respect and Alabama shortstop Jim Jarvis may be the poster child.

 Mack's spin -

I do not have this guy on my current board.

He will have to do much more in 2022 to earn a position there.

8-5-21 - Prospects Live

Dylan Lesko

Lesko came into PG National week as one of, if not the top arm in the 2022 class and his performance only helped to solidify that. The fastball sat 94-96 with life and touched 97 and it looked easy with his low-effort operation. He mixed in a curve with a steep 12-6 shape and a changeup with fade, showing good feel for both pitches in the short stint. On top of great stuff, Lesko has the ideal pitcher’s frame at 6’3, 195lbs with projection still remaining. All signs continue to point up for Lesko

Mack's spin -

Everybody loves Lesko. Including me.

My 3rd RHP.

7-30-21 - Through The Fence  -

Termarr Johnson, SS, Mays HS (GA)

Although Green stands out the most among prep position players, Johnson is also quite impressive himself. He has a solid build, soft hands, a fast bat, and a precise arm. Johnson is yet to commit to a college, though it may not make any difference if he goes as high in next year’s draft … which it seems highly possible that he will.

 Mack's spin -

We can't seem to go a week without someone writing good stuff about Johnson.

Mine, and everyone else, top SS in 2022.

 7-27-21 - Prospect Love Top 100 2022 Prospects -

 26 Brandon Sproat RHP Florida

Fastball, slider, cutter, changeup mix. Fastball 94-96 over extended outings, but Sproat can run it up there 97-99 over shorter appearances. It's a heavy heater with run and sink. Slider is a mid 80s, short breaker that he commands well at the bottom of the zone. Changeup is a firm, high-80s offspeed offering that is more of a groundball pitch than a strikeout pitch right now. Sproat has sensational arm talent.

Mack's spin -

 2021 Gators stat line - 16-G, 2-starts, 2-1, 6.65, 21.2-IP, 18-K, 15-BB

A 6.65-ERA? Wiw. A Mets starter in the making.

Right now, he barely makes my board as the 30th RHP.

7-20-21 - TTF -

 Brooks Lee, SS, Cal Poly

Between Carter Young and Brooks Lee, 2022 might turn into another Mayer/Lawler debate like 2021 had. I like that Brooks Lee can hit very well from both sides of the plate and displays the same type of power each side he’s swinging. He’s got the size you like to see for a shortstop of his caliber, and he displays quick hands at the plate and in the field. On the base paths he leaves little to be desired, but the rest of the package is there.

Mack's spin -

2021 Cal Poly stat line - 55-G, 222-AB, 34-K, team leading .342-BA, 10-HR, 57-RBI

Bog time hitter that sits #2 on my SS board.
