BINGHAMTON, NY – Jake Mangum's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th inning drove home the game-winning run as the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (40-48) knocked off the Hartford Yard Goats 4-3 to win their third straight series. The Ponies finish their season-long 13-game homestand 9-4 and have won 13 of their last 19 games.
After Hartford took a 1-0 lead in the third on a Coco Montes solo home run, the Ponies responded with three in the bottom half of the inning. Yoel Romero hit an RBI double to drive home Luis Carpio and tie the game at one. Later in the frame, with the bases loaded and one out, Brett Baty hit a two-run single to left to give the Ponies a 3-1 advantage.
Hartford would tie the score at 3 in the top of the seventh via a sacrifice groundout from Montes and an RBI double from Michael Toglia off RHP Joe Zanghi. Binghamton reliever Jared Robinson would work out of a bases loaded jam in the ninth to keep the game tied.
In the top of the tenth, with designated runner Willie Abreu on second, Ponies RHP Mitch Ragan (2-1) allowed a single to Matt McLaughlin, but Abreu was thrown out at home by RF Carlos Rincon.
In the bottom of the tenth, facing Hartford's Will Gaddis (2-7), Quinn Brodey reached first on a bunt single setting up runners on the corners with none out. After intentionally walking Romero to load the bases, Mangum hit the game-winning sacrifice fly to right to score designated runner Luis Carpio to end the game.
Oscar De La Cruz took the no decision as he allowed one run over five and two thirds innings, with two walks and a season-high 10 strikeouts. Yard Goats starter Ryan Feltner also took a no-decision allowing three runs on four hits over six with one walk and seven strikeouts.
The Rumble Ponies head on the road for twelve games beginning on Tuesday night against the Portland Sea Dogs with first pitch at 6:00 PM.
POSTGAME NOTES: Mangum extended his on-base streak to 18 games finishing 1-3 with an RBI…Ponies starting pitchers have not allowed more than two runs in 12 of their last 13 games…Carpio finished 2-4 with two runs scored.
