Winners and Losers.
Each year, I look to the minors for signs of a change in organizational thinking.
Each year, I come away quite disappointed. Let me say why.
The Dominican Summer League ultimately produces very few major leaguers for any team - but it can still tell you a lot about the organization you root for.
Typically, for instance, there is not a lot of long ball action at this level, since so many of the players are teenagers.
But, each and every year, the Yankees guys exhibit more power.
2021 is no exception, folks.
One Yankee DSL team has 25 HRs in their first 20 games.
The other Yankee DSL team has 8 HRs in 20 games.
The Mets' 2 DSL teams, combined, in HRs? FIVE.
If math is tough for you, here goes: Yankees 33, Mets 5.
Are you surprised? I am not, except that even I am a little startled here, at there being such an immense gap.
Yankee squads are hitting .266 and .245.
Mets squads are hitting .215 and .204.
Saddened? Yes. Surprised? Heck, no.
The Yankees, you see, are serious about hitting - and winning - at all levels.
The Mets? You answer the question.
The Mets' 2 teams are a combined 17-23, with a combined ERA of just under 5.00.
WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG HERE?
Going up a notch in leagues, the FCL Mets, heading into last Tuesday's action, were 13-14, with their pitchers having a 5.11 ERA.
Shocking to me, and pleasantly surprising, is that the hitters are 2nd in HRs with 25 and 6th in runs with 5 runs per game.
The Mets do have Carlos Dominguez with 6 HRs. The Yanks, though, have one guy with 7 and another with 6. Always a step ahead.
As a departing note, the four organizational levels in the minors above those 2 teams are AAA, AA, High A, and Full A.
Those 4 Mets teams through last Monday were a combined 67 games behind the 4 Yankee teams!!!!
SIXTY SEVEN GAMES!!!
And of course, the Mets whiffed on Kumar Rocker.
From Rocker to Shocker.
But should anything Mets-related shock us anymore?
So I will ask again...
WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG HERE?
My brother? He is short and to the point:
"The Mets? LOSERS!"
We'd like him to be 100% wrong. Sadly, he is not.
My only solace is that the teams overall are playing better lately.
Unlike the Mets. They seemed to have dropped a very huge anchor out of a very small boat in very deep water, and the boat is listing badly.

All that said, there have been some remarkable surprising pitching outings lately by several minors pitchers.
The Post in referring to our sorry looking club used the word somnambulant which pretty much describes it. I guess my thought about a 3 and 10 record against 2 real baseball clubs might actually be optimistic. Maybe they should just swap our major league club for the one in Syracuse because it really might be an improvement. I know in all my years of being a fan of this club I hate getting to July/Aug. and almost hoping we collapse so the powers that be will treat the off season accordingly. I guess we will soon find out.
Maybe we should have used Lindor's 341 million to buy Cashman because with Cookies crumble last night it just highlights what a disater that deal looks like everyday and that's not even mentioning the McCann move UGH!
This just in - the Woke mob finds the Mets team name offensive, so the Mets, in seeking a really appropriate replacement, found one:
THE NY COLLAPSES.
They collapse annually. Why should 2021 be any different?
The New York Mess...it's a familiar moniker that just fits.
Reese, "Mess" is a trigger point of offense to the slovenly among us.
But there are a lot of messy people in NYC metro area, so maybe it would make the team on the whole more relatable.
And quite a mess they normally are, these Metsies.
I'd call them the Cabbies. They drive me to drink every time I see them. :)

Bob W. I think keeping the M is important, though. The New York Mediocrities is a descriptive name.
