Julian Javier? Definitely. I think busting the cap and signing Java is a gamble worth taking…as long as it is far less than a 10 yr, $341 MM price tag. Unless they think they will have to trade a kid or two, or they’re just not as good as they seem, hands off the kids. Young blood is a necessity.
Javier did hit some homeruns I agree.
But his average was to me so-so and not too great, for him. He and Lindor like to play together, but this isn't kindergarten here. Other players can like playing together too.
The Mets middle infield with Javier is way out of budget order. And it cuts into other things that this team needs more importantly. Say you sign Javier to a five year (which he will want) where then does the returning Cano play (if he is in fact returning) and where can you fit Ronnie Mauricio into the Mets infield down the road with both short and second blocked to him?
I pass on Javier.
I know many will disagree here, but I'd rather have someone already under contract and making mucho dinero (Cano) on second, and then after his contract expires or Robbie is moved to the DH, Mauricio takes over second until Lindor's contract is up, when he'll be moved to short.

Baez wasn't all world I dont see why would even entertain that when its not a position of need. We have Cano coming back and while I would place him as a part time 2b/3B/DH I would save 2b for Mcniel to be able to get at bats this year and for Maurico.
we are going to have a 340 million reason to need cheap infield options.
Baty, Vientos, Maurio's first 3 years will be needed to supplement the the awful contract that Lindor has.
and pretty soon we will be talking about Alonso and the "Bright Idea" Of bringing him for a full year as a super 2 option instead of being cost effective like every other team who actually are successful.
What we need are legitimate OFers.
Marte is a possibility, with Nimmo moving over to RF.
then again I am Semiens Guy so if i want a Infielder who plays stellar Defense actually hits for avg and power he's my guy.
But I would be totally ok staying the course and keeping the spot open for the Kids.
My order of probability:
1) Baez
2) Cano
3) Somebody else- FA or Trade **
4) Villar

*** There is not much on the free agency list at second base - Chris Taylor is probably the top. I do not expect them to sign a starting second baseman
I don't have any trade candidates in mind at the moment, but with a rather crowded infield, I don't see it.
Personally, I think they will re-sign Baez for some sort of a hometown discount. He wants to be here and his market will be pretty thin with all the other shortstops out there.
Trading McNeil after a down year while he earns practically nothing makes no sense whatsoever, so of course it will happen.
My preference is to return McNeil to 2B with Cano going to 3B if Davis is no longer on the roster. 3B requires less athleticism and Cano is pushing 40 soon.
I don't see spending for Javy Baez but he did hit .299 as a Met, so you really can't criticize the output he gave them. He'll want Lindor money and term, so that's a big NO from me. There are way too many other issues to address.
The only way I would sign Baez, is if Lindor defers some coin, which we all know isn’t happening. The Mets don’t need Baez. I’d prefer Correa, but they need a third baseman and an outfielder.
But, I see JD Davis as a goner. There’s no place for him. That kind of bothers me…
Gus, Davis will probably hit .300 elsewhere - say, in Cleveland or Seattle. Baez will hit .240 here - seems pretty even to me. LOL
