Incredulous - and Joyful!
The Mets on Wednesday swept the formerly hot Pirates when they won 9-1?!
Two weeks ago, dead in the water and staggering at a punchless 0-5?!
But 10 wins in 13 games since?!
Winning like mad without Senga, JD Martinez, Megill, and Peterson?!
(For a while longer, anyway, then they’re back?!)
After the extreme offensive drought to start the season, they are now, in the twinkling of an eye, 12th in HRs, 13th in runs scored?!
And have the 6th best team ERA (3.15) in baseball?!
My advice?!
Quit yer kvetching!
Of course, if I was David Stearns, I might consider demoting Zach Short (.125) and calling up Mark (I’m So Very Overripe) Vientos, who was 6 for 9 and a walk for Syracuse over the past 2 games and is now hitting .328/.426/.552.
I’m not kvetching, just recommending/suggesting.

Anyway…
Off go the sizzling Mets to Dodgerville.
No more Mets-related kvetching to be heard in the real MLB world (which excludes Mets fans sites on Facebook, where daily kvetching is like a drug for losers).

Here’s a guy who should make every minor league hitter too embarrassed to NOT make the major leagues:
Pete Gray.
Missing an arm, for Pete’s sake, he got up 253 times for the St. Louis’s Browns in 1945 and hit .218, fanning just 11 times.
One….Arm. Think about the drive this guy had.
In the minors, in 1944, he hit 5 home runs and batted .333, scoring 119 runs and stealing 68 bases. He fanned 12 times in 561 plate appearances. Wow. Wow. Wow.
SOME THINGS NEVER CHANGE
One-armed Pete Gray hit .333 in his 1944 full minor league season.
The 2024 Brooklyn Cyclones after 11 games are hitting .178, and all of their players have two arms. Brooklyn teams never hit well early in the season. No matter how many arms their hitters possess.

in building this team look smart. New acquisitions all
contributing and even bullpen decisions to keep Drew Smith
and re-sign Otto were smart...Garrett and Lopez in pen are
real good, and the current starters are looking good for now. We will have
more starters returning, and offense adding JD and Vientos to beef
up offense.
Winning the division, after the Braves lost Strider? A plausible case can be made.
They've lost Strider; Max Fried has an ERA close to EIGHT; and Charlie Morton is 40 years old.
That sounds a lot like "catchable" to me.

"Brave" new world this NL East seems to be for our Mets with a division title at stake but remember we are still The Mets so lets pump the brakes alittle but it's exciting for sure. What did they do to Reed Garrett (and the rest of the BP)? pitching lab? Whatever they did I'm surprised we're not hearing more about it but I guess trade secrets are the answer and I'll enjoy the ride for now.

The Dodgers do have two .360 hitters in Ohtani and Betts. Let’s win at least 1 of 3 out there.
Garrett was upgraded with T2 components, according to Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Pete Gray: in his 260+ at bats in 1945, he had three 3 hit games, and one 4 hit game, really remarkable.
Kelenic got off to a very good start, but is 3 for 20 with 11 Ks in his last 6 games.
And Pete Crow Armstrong is still in AAA. This year and late last year, he has fanned 66 times in 223 plate appearances in AAA, a very high rate. Maybe that Baez trade won't turn out to be quite as terrible as it appeared.
The team will cool off on this west coast trip. This run is just a run, not an indication that divine intervention has occurred since the team broke camp. Bader will not continue to hit like this, and unless the starting pitchers can run six or more innings consistently, the bull pen will run out of gas and their performance will drop. JD Martinez will finally be "ready" and we will find out that he is not the guy he was last year. Something about New York shaves 25 points off anyone's batting average.

I've long been planning on seeing Syracuse Mets on weekend of 26th.
Any word on Gilbert's progress? He was put on 7-day DL about a week ago.
Also: Acuna has not played for Mets in several days, and word had him spotted in NYC. For medicals, I wonder?

We are winning without a lot of contributions from our key guys. Thank goodness for our bottom four and a strong pen.
Jim, I currently know nothing on Gilbert or Acuna. I noticed he missed a few games. Hopefully he’s day to day, and a Gilbert’s back soon. I am guessing it was a cold-related muscle puil.
Ray, it feels like forever since the Mets got substantial production from their non-core offensive guys. Good to see. Whoever found Garrett….wow.
Geez, Paul seems to be turning to a Debbie Downer in his advanced years :-) but Tom's hopefulness is contagious.
Some random R69 thoughts:
I find myself somewhere in the middle. I am seeing articles and clips on how the chemistry of this club over the last week and a half is something that hasn't been seen since late 2022. I believe that a good clubhouse can take a club a long way.
I think the pitching is for real. I do agree 100% with Paul that they need to get more than 5 (or 6) innings from their starters, or the pen will go bad in a hurry. I like someone's idea to try to find the guy that can go 3 or 4 innings a couple times a week to finish a game and save the 5 or 6 pitcher games.
At this point, the bullpen is solid. See previous point for concerns. If it is managed well over the next 2-3 months, it can be a strength.
I am not convinced that Bader cannot continue hitting. He may not hit .320, but at the bottom of the order, I would not be surprised to see .275 or .280 with decent power - 20+ doubles and double digit homers.
Tyrone Taylor is a player.
I am a bit worried about the mix when Martinez finally arrives. Taylor has benefitted from Marte taking DH reps. I don't know how that continues. Somebody is going to lose at-bats, most likely split between Taylor and Marte.
I don't know how much anybody else cares about righty-lefty balance, but when Martinez (righty) comes, chances are they will jettison a lefty (Short or Stewart). If Vientos were to come up, the other one of them would most certainly be gone, leaving only Nimmo, McNeil, Narvaez, and Wendle as the lefties with Lindor a switch hitter. I guess I don't have much problem as long as all hitting together is better than just trying to have balance.
Unfortunately. I still cannot see where Vientos has any spot this year, short of an Alonso injury. Perhaps if he continues to rake at Syracuse, he can be a very valuable trade chip.
I would like to see a 4-2 road trip, but I guess 3-3 would be somewhat successful. The Dodgers have holes (have patience, Mets hitters!) and the Giants have not yet established that they are a very good team.
