Tom Brennan: Yesterday’s 6 Mets Games. & STRIDER QUAKE

“HEY! HOW DID IT GO?”

The Misery Mets fall to 2-6, after having promisingly led yesterday 5-2, but ultimately losing 9-6, due to:

1) a highly flammable pen of Diekman and Ramirez allowing 7 runs in 3 innings,

2) Severino pitching a much better 5 innings (1 earned, 7 Ks), but needing a too-high 99 pitches to get there, hence only the 5 innings, hence leading to the 3 highly flammable pen innings,

3) the Lindor mystery continues, with him dropping to .032, followed by hitless McNeil’s .091, 2-hit Nimmo climbing sharply to a still miserable .120, and Pete’s 0 for 5, dropping him to .206.

The heart of the line up is the fart of the line up so far.

4) Baty and Narvaez combined for 5 hits and 3 RBIs, in a very promising side to another bad game. Alvarez rested

5) Marte had 2 hits and a walk, another huge relief. Let’s face it, the fart brothers need help.

AAA

Syracuse wins 2. Trailing 2-0 heading into the final inning of game 2, the score over the last 2 innings was 9 more runs Mets, 4 more runs Yanks. It helped that the Yanks ran out of pitchers and had a 2B pitch the 8th. It appeared that Trayce Thompson hit a 2 run sac fly that inning, with Acuna scoring from 2nd.

Vientos hit # 2 in game 1. A laser to right.  He is .333/.419/.630 with 7 RBIs in the first 7 games, much better than the aforementioned fart brothers.

Dedniel Nunez is off to a great relief start to the season. He is on the radar.

AA

Binghamton has a far more potent offense than in 2023, and it showed…23 base runners in the 8 innings needed for their 9-3 home win.  Junior Santos 3 hitless in relief for the W.

Rudick and Rhylan are cooking offensively. Ramirez, Schwartz (2 hits, 3 RBIs), and Young (HR) joined in the fun, and Parada did, too, as he had 2 hits and a walk.

HIGH A

Brooklyn lost, and didn’t hit. 4 total hits, but 10 walks, produced just 2 runs. Ryan Clifford fanned his first 3 times up in a 1 for 5 night.

Willie Mays Lugo, though, has been on base 7 times in 2 games and is destined for Say Hey greatness. He does play shortstop you know, and Brooklyn is not far from Queens, where the Mets’ SS is making out in 96.8% of his at bats, so…just spitballing here.

Lefty Felipe de la Cruz started and threw 4 innings of 1 hit shutout ball.

A

St Lucie got a very strong start from Wyatt Hudepohl, the 4th rounder in 2023, who went 3 innings in his pro debut, with 1 hit, 6 Ks for St Lucie.  6’4” righty. Nick the Very, Very Quick Morabito had a hit and walked twice, and a steal. He is rated faster than Jett and Acuna.  On base 5 of 8 times in the first two games. .306 hitter last year.

Relievers Layonel Ovalles and Saul Garcia gave up 6 hits, 6 walks, and 6 runs in 3.2 IP. On a scale of 1-10, they rated well below a 6.

JD Martinez started his game with a hit and walk, but went hitless his last 3 times up. Wake up, old bat!

THAT…is my mini game update.

Onward to 5 more Sunday games.

Never a dull moment in Metsville.

Be alert, though, for excessive farts in Cincinnati.

STRIDER EARTHQUAKE?

In a week of earthquakes, tremors were felt in Georgia, and Fani Willis declared she is innocent of any wrongdoing.she denies any contact with Spencer Strider’s elbow.

Braves’ Ace Spencer Strider’s MRI and testing showed damage to the ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching elbow. Strider will be evaluated by an orthopedic surgeon. Uhh ohh.

While still TBD, the UCL damage is very possibly going to lead to Tommy John surgery, which would be his second such surgery. If that happens, the Braves will have been dealt a very major blow.

Even with the Mets’ fart start, the Mets may have a renewed chance at the division if all goes right (but when does it, really?)

But wouldn’t the Mets’ 2-6 start be 6-2 if the fart brothers were hitting .300 and not .100? We know the farmers will soon begin to hit like Star starters. And JD arrives soon.

We’ll see.

Win in Cinncy but now the Bravos so lets get it on fellas and if Pete and Lindy don't start hitting soon it's not going to really matter. I know it's early but was SC right to wait on signing Alonso because there's no way the pressure is not bothering him so Stevie in effect benefits on an off year for PA then does he go hard after Soto AND Pete or just one of them? By the way the Dodgers signed 2 players to over a billion dollars and their payroll is less than ours so how do they get away with it and why aren't teams up in arms about it? My guess is by following my #2 rule of life "always follow the money" all teams benefit financially so in effect it's hush money right?
