Minor Thoughts - Monday

1. After trying to keep up with so many games, and pick out the highlights from each player, I simply didn’t notice Friday night that the GCL Mets threw a no-hitter. It’s just something you don’t look for after your starting pitcher, Sal Aguilar, pitched only one inning. The real hero of this game was, once again, Jhonathan Torres, who just simply keeps throwing one great outing after another. The 19-yr. old is now 4-0, 0.82 for the GCL Mets, after going 5-2 last year for the VSL team.

2. I guess a good judge on how a minor league player is… err… playing, would be where he ranks against his peers in the same division. That being said…

3. AAA-International League: Hitting: OF Jesus Feliciano is ranked 11th in batting average (.303), 5th in hits (88), and 11th in doubles (20). No other Herder is ranked in the top 15 of any other offensive category.

4. AAA-International League: Picthcing: P Nelson Figueroa is ranked 5th in lowest ERA (.250), and 3rd in lowest WHIP (1.04)… SP Jonathan Niese is ranked 11th in strikeouts (80).

5. AA-Eastern League: Josh Thole leads the league in hitting (.346), 11th in hits (89), 10th in doubles (21), 3rd in OBP (.414), and 6th in OPS (.869). Emmanuel Garcia is 11th in runs scored (46), and 15th in hits (87). D.J. Wabick is 6th in doubles (22). Lucas Duda is 15th in doubles (20), and 5th in walks (47).

6. AA-Eastern League – Pitching: Roy Merritt is 5th in saves (11).

7. A+-St. Lucie: Ike Davis still ranks 13th in batting average (.283), 13th in doubles (17), 8th in OBP (.376), 2nd in SLG (.486), and still leads the league in OPS (.863). Carlos Guzman is 14th in hits (78), 7th in doubles (18), 8th in HRs (10), 4th in total bases (128), and 14th in SLG (.428). Kirk Nieuwenhuis is 9th in doubles (18), 7th in total bases (123), 12th in walks (33), and 13th in HRs (9). Zach Lutz ranks 6th in OBP (.380) and 9th in OPS (.800). Hector Pellot ranks 13th in OBP (.364).

8. A+ St. Lucie Pitching: Manuel Alvarez is 11th in saves (8). Scott Shaw is 7th in strikeouts (74).

9. A-Savannah Hitting: Josh Satin is 12th in batting average (.301), tied for 5th in hits (89), 5th in doubles (21), leads the league in walks (49), and 5th in OBP (.399). Sean Ratliff is 9th in runs scored (47), tied for 5th in hits (89), 5th in triples (6), 10th in RBIs (47), and 6th in TB (146). Jefry Marte is 13th in triples (5).

10. A-Savannah Pitching: Robert Carson is 8th in wins (7), 2nd in lowest ERA (2.02), and 14th in WHIP (1.19). Rhiner Cruz is 3rd in saves (15). Eric Beaulac is 8th in Ks (83). Jeurys Familia is 12th in WHIP (1.18).
