Juan Lagares, Jordany Valdespin, Daniel Muno, Seaver on Reyes, Pennant Race

Juan Legares:

We need to take another look at Juan Legarus. It’s easy to forget about him because he’s been around so long, but he is still only 22 years old. Right now, he is the the most solid outfielder in the system. He’s playhing for St. Lucie, hitting .339/.379/.495/.873 in 192-AB.This comes off a 2010 where he hit .300 for Savannah. Yes, he doesn’t ealk that much (12), but he also doesn’t strike out much either (29). Defensively, he only has two errors all season. And there’s not much more he can do at this level. Lagarus isn’t know for his pop, but he does have five home runs this season and definitely deserves a promotion to Binghamton as much as Matt den Dekker. He will; hoever, start slow there, which is his motis.

Jordany Valedespin:

6-18-11: - http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/prospect-hot-sheet/2011/2611960.html  - Scouts never questioned Valdespin's raw tools, but they cautioned that the young middle infielder's game required a lot of refinement. Playing shortstop every day at Double-A may have afforded Valdespin that extra incentive he needed to mature. He's swiped 16 bases in 19 tries on the year, and in June he's turned on the power (five homers, .733 slugging) and tuned down the strikeouts (11 percent of at-bats). His performance may prove to be a statistical blip, but the Mets have to be happy with what they've seen lately

Daniel Muno:

This could be premature but I’m putting Muno on the Keepers list after his great two game start in Brooklyn . Here some “stuff” I’ve compiled so far:

Danny Muno broke Fresno State’s all-time walk record on April 17, 2010 against Louisiana Tech. Muno has recorded over 200 career walks in four seasons. The senior broke the career record for runs scored (209) on March 1 against Cal Poly. On May 21, he broke the school record for games played in a career at 249 games. Muno has a chance to break the following career records this season: at-bats, hits and doubles. - http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/fres/sports/m-basebl/auto_pdf/weekly-release.pdf

Muno is one of those guys who has been around forever. He was Fresno State’s starting shortstop as a freshman when the Bulldogs ran to the CWS National Championship in 2008. He earned WAC Freshman of the Year honors that season. Now a senior, he could end his career with more games than anyone who’s ever worn an FSU uniform. Muno batted .329 with seven home runs, 33 RBIs, 10 stolen bases, and scored a team-best 68 runs in 2010. He earned first team All-WAC honors at second base in 2009, but settled for second team last year with Hawaii’s Kolten Wong taking top honors - http://collegebaseball360.com/tag/dan-paolini

6-14-11: - http://www.minorleagueball.com/2011/6/14/2222649/2011-mlb-draft-new-york-mets-review#storyjump  - 8) Danny Muno, SS, Fresno State: Senior sleeper, good speed, good statistics, great makeup. Future utility type but there is a non-zero chance he could get beyond that. Hit .346/.471/.471 with 14 steals, 46/27 BB/K in 205 AB.

Seaver on Reyes:

Trading away Tom Seaver back in 1977 is still by far the biggest departure in Mets history. And yesterday Tom Terrific warned if they trade away Jose Reyes -- in the midst of a breakthrough MVP-type season -- they'd better have a plan. "If you're trading a franchise player -- and when I was traded they didn't have that kind of thinking -- then you're in a regroup mode. I'm not saying a rebuilding mode, but a regroup mode," Seaver told reporters at Citi Field. "The people they have now are too smart not to have a plan for regrouping, and a time plan and a people plan. Where are there weaknesses? What are they shooting for?" http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/mets/seaver_mets_need_plan_if_jose_dealt_zwgXQVkPd6hkGmiAQRvi3M#ixzz1Piuvk6CS

Pennant Race:

In the best scenario, Ike Davis and David Wright return around the All-Star break, Jason Bay begins to resemble the player the Mets thought they signed, and some positive feedback begins flowing from Johan Santana’s shoulder rehab. That would make the Mets deeper and provide stronger evidence they could stay in the race. Conversely, the laws of probability suggest Reyes will not play to this level all year, nor will Dillon Gee. Do you believe in the durability of Carlos Beltran and Jason Isringhausen? http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/mets/for_mets_alderson_pros_cons_ride_DAYdoKXe5D46MUjUbedMtJ#ixzz1PiwdA0h9

Santana, Santana, Santana. Ill tell you what, let him get healthy, don't let him pitch this year, and just stick to long tossing. Lets make sure we get something for the 20 million+ he'll get next year. The rotation going right now is pitching well enough that the Santana issue shouldn't be forced. Hopefully after the all-star break, like what was just written, we get our injured bats healthy, our left fielder back on right track, and our shortstop continuing at a pace that forces management to open up the Citifield vault. However, if this team goes on ANY skid that resembles a 3 and 15 losing clip, sell sell sell, like the market is about to crash. They must be smart, cold, and calculating. Insuring that 2012 and the twenty teens do not become a dredfull resemblence of the horrible teams that patrolled Shea during most of the nineties. CT
