8/7/13
Savannah 1 - Charleston 0
For the second straight night the Savannah Sand Gnats pitching staff held the Charleston RiverDogs off the scoreboard. Tuesday, the Gnats’ offense did the minimum, scoring a single run on their way to a 1-0 victory over the RiverDogs.
The Gnats (23-18/66-44) scored the game’s only run in the bottom of the sixth inning. C Albert Cordero, who was 2-for-3 led off with a flyball double on which Charleston centerfielder Jake Cave slipped and appeared to lose sight of the ball. SS Dimas Ponce then sacrificed Cordero to third before 2B Jorge Rivero singled past a drawn-in infield to bring home Cordero.
Savannah starter Gabriel Ynoa tossed six and two thirds scoreless innings to lower his ERA to 2.78 and pick up his SAL-leading 13th win of 2013. Ynoa struck out five and did not walk a batter while allowing just three hits.
The RiverDogs (22-23/61-52) lost their seventh straight game. Charleston had a runner at third in the second and sixth innings.
Savannah reliever Beck Wheeler struck out two batters in the ninth for his 14th save for the Gnats, dropping his ERA to 1.91.
The Gnats look for a sweep tomorrow when they hand the ball to RHP Marcos Camarena (5-1, 1.85) who will be opposed by RHP Dan Camarena (3-6, 4.56). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm. Gates to Historic Grayson Stadium open at 6 pm. The radio pregame show begins on News/Talk 630 and online at Sandgnats.com at 6:45 pm.
