Mets Minor League Report: August 31, 2014.

Mets Minor League Co-Players of the Day: Las Vegas CF Cesar Puello & Binghamton RHSP Gabriel Ynoa..

Albuquerque (62-79) embarrasses Las Vegas (80- 63) 12-11 in 11.

The 51’s coughed up leads of 8-0 and 10-6, allowing the Isotopes to tie the game, scoring 4 in the bottom of the 8th. L.V. retook the lead with a run in the top of the 9th, but Alby came right back to tie it again in the bottom of the inning. They then walked off with the win in the 11th on a walk, a HBP, a sac bunt and a sac fly.

Starter Logan Verrett was great: 5.0 IP. 0 R, 2 H, BB, 5 K. (I wonder why Verrett didn’t go deeper into this game.)
Matthew Bowman was off tonight: 0.1 IP, 5 R, 5 H, 0 BB. (Perhaps Wally wanted Bowman to pitch the last 4 innings. The best laid plans . . . )
Zack Thornton: 0,2 IP, R, 2 H, 0 BB, K.
Miguel Socolovich: 1.0 IP, 3 R, 3 H, (HR) BB, 2 K. (Why is a pitcher awarded a hold for an inning like this? This is another instance of why the Official Scorer should be given latitude for awarding wins, losses, saves, and holds, when the rule results in an obvious wrong.)
Jack Leathersich: (BS, 1) 1.0 IP, R, 2 H, (HR) 0 BB, K.
Chase Bradford: (BS, 3) 2.0 IP, R, 3 H, 0 BB, 2 K.
Ryan Reid: (L, 5-2) 0.2 IP, R, 0 H, 2 BB.

Tons of offense here, but the 51’s still fall short.
Danny Muno, leading off: 0-3, 4 BB, 2 R.
Cory Vaughn: 1-2, HR, BB, RBI, 2 R.
Bobby Abreu: 2-5, 2B, 2 BB, RBI, 2 R.
Andrew Brown: 2-6, 2B, BB, 3 RBI, R.
Brandon Allen: 3-7, 2B, 2 RBI, R.
Cesar Puello: 4-6, HR, 2B, RBI, R.
Anthony Seratelli: 2-6, RBI, R.

Richmond (78-63) nips Binghamton (83-58) 1-0.

Gabriel Ynoa could hardly have been better: 7.0 IP, 0 R, 3 H, BB, 6 K.
Jon Velasquez: (L, 4-4) 1.0 IP, R, 2 H, BB, K:

Not enough offense to eke out a win here.
Brian Burgamy: 1-2, 2B, 2 BB.

St. Lucie (76-62) plugs Palm Beach (76-63) 4-2.

Matthew Koch: (W, 10-4) 7.0 IP, R, 9 H, BB, 4 K.
Jake Kuebler: (S, 3) 2.0 IP, R, H, (HR) 0 BB, 3 K.
L.J. Mazzilli: 3-4, 2B, 2 RBI, R. (Raises his avg. to .312.)

Jairo Perez: 1-3, 2B, BB. (Lowers his avg. to .353. lol)
Gilbert Gomez: 2-3, 2B, RBI, R.

Rome (56-83) edges Savannah (84-51) 4-3.

The Sand Gnats seem to be in a funk, going 2-9 in their last 11 games, just as they are preparing to defend their SAL championship.

Alex Panteliodis: (L, 5-5) 7.0 IP, 4 R, 8 H, 3 BB, 3 K.
Bret Mitchell: 1.0 IP, 0 R, H, 0 BB.

Patrick Biondi: 1-4, HR, 2 RBI, R.
Stefan Sabol: 2-3, BB, R.

Brooklyn (41-34) slaughters Staten Island (37-37) 11-3.

Alberto Baldonado: (W, 3-4) 5.0 IP, R, 4 H, BB, 7 K.
Carlos Valdez: 2.0 IP, 2 R, 2 H, (HR) 2 BB, K.
Edioglis Villasmil: 1.0 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 2 K.
Brandon Welch: 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 H, BB. K.

Adrian Abreu: 3-4, HR, 2B, 4 RBI, 2 R.
Michael Conforto: 3-4, 2B, BB, 2 R.

Puello has done better in July and August...just a shame he has only been to the plate 360 times this year. He has a decent on base % (partly due to collecting his usual quota of HBP with 21). He seems to have hit well with RISP and later in games and further down in the line up. Is it a question of not paying enough attention? If still in the org next year, he'll be 24. He's been around 7 years already. Time to get moving. Puzzling.

A lot of people probably have heard he is a 5 tool player. He is a terrific 56 of 66 in steals the past 3 years in just 860 plate appearances. That could be a weapon for him.

Muno 4 walks - he is one of those guys you can't just look at the average on. Always a strong on base %.
