Friday night in Cincinnati, the Mets pounded out 18 hits and
hit 5 home runs as they blew out the Reds 14-5.
The Mets jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first off Alfredo
Simon and never looked back. Leading 3-2
in the top of the 4th Travis d’Arnaud help the Mets pull away with a
three run homer off Simon, for d’Arnaud his 13th on the year to make
it 6-2. After a solo Homer by Wilmer Flores (3) in the 5th, Curtis
Granderson clubbed a three run homer in the 6th, this 17th
to make it 10-2 Mets. An RBI double by
David Wright made it 11-2 in the 7th. In the 8th Dilson Herrera hit his
2nd major league home run. In the 9th Lucas Duda clubbed
his 27th homer to dead center, a 2 run shot to cap the Met scoring. Wright went 4 for 5 with 2 runs scored and the
RBI. d’Arnaud went 3 for 4 with 4 RBI, Granderson went 2 for 6 with 4 RBI,
Herrera went 3 for 5 and Flores went 2 for 6. Duda had the homer and 3 RBI as
well. Bartolo Colon was the beneficiary of the run support going 7 innings
allowing 7 hits 2 runs (both earned) he walked 1 and struck out 2. He gets the
win improving to 13-11. Simon took the
loss falling to 13-10. With the win the Mets
win their 3rd straight improving to 67-74 on the year and 34-39 on
the road. Saturday afternoon it’s game
two of the series. Dillon Gee (6-6 3.81) goes for the Mets, Johnny Cueto (16-8 2.26) goes for Cincy.
