NEW HAMPSHIRE STARTER: RHP Jeremy Gabryszewski will take the ball for the Fisher Cats, the first time in his career that he has started on Opening Day. Gabryszewski spent the entire 2015 season with Dunedin (High-A) and went 9-8 with a 3.77 ERA, his lowest career ERA with a full season club. The 2011 second-round pick makes his Double-A debut tonight.
LET’S GET IT STARTED: The B-Mets begin their 25th season tonight, owning a 14-10 all-time record on Opening Day. It is the first time since 2009 that Binghamton opens with a team other than Akron, as the B-Mets either hosted or visited the Aeros/RubberDucks for the past six Opening Days. Binghamton has lost three of its past four season openers and is 6-6 all time at NYSEG Stadium on Opening Day. This is the fourth time Binghamton and the New Hampshire franchise have met on Opening Day with the B-Mets owning a 3-0 record.
OLD FACES: Binghamton’s Opening Day roster features 10 players that appeared on last year’s B-Mets team that was swept by Reading in the first round of the Eastern League playoffs. There are four men who were members of the 2014 Eastern League Championship squad (Rainy Lara, Tyler Pill, Xorge Carrillo, Kyle Johnson).
NEW FACES: The B-Mets will employ four players (Andrew Barbosa, Raywilly Gomez, Derrik Gibson, Niuman Romero) who were not in the Mets organization in 2015.
HELLO (OLD) FRIENDS: Binghamton and New Hampshire met 22 times last year with each team winning 11 of those matchups. Xorge Carrillo (.350, 3 2B, 3 HR, 10 R, 11 RBI in 16 G) and L.J. Mazzilli (.302, 2 2B, 4 R, .388 OBP) both feasted on Fisher Cat pitching in 2015. Akeel Morris did not allow a hit with a 0.00 ERA, 4 K in 4.0 IP in three outings and Tonight’s starter Robert Gsellman was 0-1 with a 2.77 ERA in two starts.
THEY BANGED IT: The B-Mets were postponed on Opening Day for the third time in franchise history and first since 2007 at Akron. It was the first home opener since 1995 to be postponed
NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The series continues with RHP Tyler Pill facing LHP John Anderson. Pill went a combined 8-7 with a 5.87 ERA between Binghamton and Las Vegas (AAA) and was 6-0 with a 2.60 ERA with the B-Mets. Anderson was 6-6 with a 4.62 ERA with New Hampshire in 2015.
