order for the Mets to make room for the addition of SP Chris
Mazza, they chose to DFA RP Ryan O’Rourke.
You
would think that a team that has a horrible pen would hold on to someone with
some success there. Not true. The 31-year old O’Rourke was 0.00 in two outings for
the Mets and 3.31 in 26 games for AAA-Syracuse.

I personally believe that the current 2019 NY Mets young core here with Peter Alonso, Jeff McNeil, Dominic Smith, Amed Rosario, JD Davis, and Brandon Nimmo (when ready to go) is the best young core group of solid professional players that this NY Mets organization HAS EVER HAD IN ITS 57 YEAR HISTORY.
I don't even think that there is a valid argument contradicting this. The only argument might be in regards to the 1986 NY Mets Championship team with Dwight Gooden, Ron Darling, Sid Fernandez, Darryl Strawberry, Lenny Dykstra, Mookie Wilson, and Kevin Mitchel. But if you take into account then this team's younger arms like Noah Syndergaard, Zachary Wheeler, and now Edwin Diaz, I think this argument still stands up. It is that good.
This 2019 NY Mets team mayjust need two things more. It needs to sort out the rest of this 2019 Mets team, getting the best guys in there more regularly contributing at a higher than the first half effort. And secondly, a few "possible missing pieces" that could greatly affect the outcome of this 2019 season and quite possibly catapult these NY Mets into the 2019 playoffs. I entirely think that this is possible.
The type of arms I might take a look at outside the Mets organization are pitchers like lefty reliever Will Smith (SFG) and right handed starter Luke Weaver (Dbacks). Both young. Both good already. Both playing MLB. And both might actually be available. Both definitely would fit in nicely here to this young core grouping.
There may be a few players down in the Mets MiLB (as well) who might be ready for a look stint here. Pitchers like Adonis Uceta, Antony Kay, Kyle Gilliam, Matt Blackham, and Harol Gonzales come to mind right away, but you do not want to rush any of them up too fast and definitely the NY Mets brass would know this way better than myself, when each one is ready.
You want to provide the younger MiLB Mets enough time where they are, so that come 2019 ST they can be ready to go and most optimal. But that is a lot of talent that can be added I think.
All I ask for, is the NY Mets management to protect this fabulous young core already here now because it is absolutely outstanding. The 2019 Playoffs are not beyond this team's reach by any means.
The NY Mets do have trade pieces it could consider beyond this young core. The NY media wants huge player trades that would redefine the Mets team. The reason why is because they want the sensationalism that a huge trade would bring to their reporting and readership. The sports media overall are not steep in knowing how to build a championship younger NY sports team simply because seldom (if ever) has this been done in NY unfortunately beyond the mid-1980's NY Football Giants. However, by first look, it appears that the current NY Knicks team has redirected themselves (wisely) towards this re-direction too.
The NY Mets organization is very deep at the MiLB middle infield positions, two really good young MiLB catchers at a higher level, and several good young relievers it could use in potential trade possibilities. It also has some veteran talent in the last season of their current contracts. This could all work out to the Mets favor.
