With
the 748th pick (25th round) in the 2019 draft, the Mets picked:
TNXL (FL) HS senior, pitcher Joseph Charles.
TNXL (FL) HS senior, pitcher Joseph Charles.
PG
- Joseph Charles is a 2019 RHP/OF with a 6-3 190 lb. frame from Celebration, FL
who attends The First Academy. Very athletic build and very projectable
physically. Fast paced delivery especially in his leg raise, slows down his
pace from the stretch, fast and loose arm.
Fastball topped out at 94 mph
frequently, works 4-seam/2-seam with late running life at times, works low in
the strike zone well. Throws both a curveball and slider, has good spin on both
but shows better present feel for his curveball.
Notably better in his command
and stuff this game against right handed hitters. High ceiling arm that will
continue to improve as he gets more and more innings and calms down his
mechanics. Right handed hitter, hits from an even base with an active hand start,
quick hands, gets out to his front side early, generates lots of raw bat speed.
Two way talent as a right fielder. Excellent student, verbal commitment to
North Carolina. Selected to play in the Perfect Game All-American Classic.
3rd Man
- Joseph Charles received his first collegiate baseball offer from the
University of Pittsburgh in the summer following his eighth grade year in 2015.
It caught the right-handed pitcher from Celebration, Florida off guard, but it
marked the start of a busy recruiting process.
Charles
committed to the University of North Carolina about two years after obtaining
the offer from Pittsburgh. His baseball skills have continued to progress, and
he enters his senior season of high school baseball as one of the top prep
players in the country.
Baseball
America ranks Charles as the 33rd-best prep prospect in the 2019 MLB draft
class.
Charles,
a 6-foot-2, 200-pound hurler, isn’t immune to the draft process. Throughout his
prep career, he’s played for the Central Florida Gators, a travel baseball team
in Altamonte Springs, Florida. Last year, he suited up with five first-round
picks – Carter Stewart, Nolan Gorman, Mason Denaburg, Gunnar Hogland and
Matthew Liberatore.

Charles looks excellent - but will they sign him?
