Mets 10th-ranked prospect David Peterson will indeed start tonight at Fenway Park in his Major League debut.
— Anthony DiComo (@AnthonyDiComo) July 28, 2020
Peterson was the Mets' first-round pick in 2017. He has a career 3.63 ERA in the minors and posted a 3.46 mark in the Arizona Fall League.
Breaking: The Mets have agreed to a deal with Bruce Maxwell, the former A’s catcher known best for kneeling during the national anthem in 2017.

Contract is pending a physical/intake testing.

The Mets have made a slew of 40-man moves in the past few weeks, losing a piece of their starting pitching depth -- Stephen Gonsalves -- in the process. The industry expectation is that Tyler Bashlor, despite his trouble at the MLB level, will probably get claimed as well.

Luis Rojas admitted it was difficult to put Dom Smith back on the bench tonight. Says he spoke with Smith and conveyed the message: "Stay hot."

David Peterson is wearing 77

Other Mets to wear 77:
- Carrasco
- Nido (2017)
- Buddy Baumann
The Mets have added right-handers Pedro Payano and Yefry Ramírez to their 60-man Player Pool. They'll head to Brooklyn.

Monster strikeout of J.D. Martinez by David Peterson on a slider, a pitch the Mets' analytics team instructed him to throw more often last season. It's been working.

David Peterson became the first Mets starter since Steven Matz to earn the W in his big-league debut.
JD Davis had a day in left field and crushed his first home run of the year.
Mets head back home on a winning, 3-2 record.

I thought that Nido wpuld make things more comfortable for Peterson, but what do I know. I would have also played Dom.
I would have tried to make the defense tonight as best as possible to help the young pitcher. That would mean Marisnick in CF and Gimenez at 2B. If Ramos has a good relationship with Peterson, I am ok with him catching - but Nido would seem to make more sense. Hope Dom gets start tomorrow when RHP goes for Boston.
Side note: I thought Rojas managed a perfect game last night. The defensive subs, getting two innings out of the lefty, pulling Familia, keeping Lugo in to finish the game, batting Cano 7th, etc.
We're not going to agree with every move, but it's pretty clear already that there will be an informed thought process behind his decisions.
Jimmy
I agree Jimmy. Overall a big improvement. It shows he has managerial experience and is able to convince BVW on his lineup preferences.
I like this 2020 version of the NYM, and I see the blossoming talent potential here that it presents. It is however somewhat of a shame that MLB teams will not be able to take full developmental advantage (for its rookie and injury returning players) of a more normal full scheduled season. Players (like this two groups) will have to subscribe to a sort of a 2020 "crash course" playing time scenario.
It's all good though. It's baseball anyway!
I do however think that MLB teams (with most of their starting players and pitchers as veteran experienced) will probably have a slight advantage in this shortened season.
Very impressed by David Peterson. Looks like a keeper to me! And I think JD Davis's net worth should be upgraded significantly here.
Eovaldi is beatable.
The Mets you ask?
They are ALIVE!
