Green Monster Shortly Before Alonso Laser Killed It
In yesterday's 7-4 win over the Red Sox that brought the Mets back to .500 at 2-2, the Mets once again faced a beast that they first met in trench warfare in 1986 - Fenway's Green Monster.
The New Green Deal is that the Mets actually hit!
Pete Alonso crushed his first 2020 homer all the way to the land where the polar bears live. It was hit so fast, a fan was seriously injured despite being in Denver at the time. Smoked.
The ball claimed it social distanced on its own, but we caught it all on film, so the ball was lying.
Dominic Smith again showed why my opinion of him being equivalent to a same age Adrian Gonzalez is not far-fetched. He cranked a 3 run blast that spoke excellent English, saying "why the heck aren't you playing Dom Smith more?"
Conforto's 2 run shot and smoked single support the view that this could be a special, if short, season for Michael.
Michael Wacha gave the Mets excellent 5 inning, one run allowed baseball in his debut, hitting an amazing 97 MPH, pitching SMART - and picked up the win, too - SWEET. Of course, after he picked up the win, he washed his hands.
Chase Shreve also made his Mets debut and did well, allowing a solo homer over 2 IP.
Seth Lugo was - well - Seth Lugo. He is simply excellent, and not in any way, shape, or form is he a moron. Instead, he throws like a genius.
Cano ain't hitting yet, and Yogi told him it gets late early. Familia wasn't great, but hey, it happens.
Rosario and McNeil pick up a couple of hits each. they used hand sanitizer, in case you wondered. And McNeil has been socially distant from a razor, and is rocking that beard.
All in all, the kind of night I expect from the Mets EVERY NITE.
LGM.

Lugo looked highly impressive -- about on par with what Wacha did, though a totally different style.
I wonder how Cespedes felt when his sub ripped a ball over the outfield fence?
If Terry was managing, you know Smith would be riding the pines today. He can console with Wilmer Flores.
Reese, true on Lugo - he's great. 34th rounder.
First rounder Smith could be great, too. He needs to play a lot. Thank heavens for the DH, to provide ABs.
We could use an entire season of games against Boston and Baltimore.
And throw in the Marlins... you can't lose a game you don't play.
With Boston, all Betts are off.
BOOOO!
Will you ever get over your Terryphobia?
Maybe if he were still here, Smith wouldn't have been glued to the bench for the 1st 3 games.
Bill, Smith needs to play. If you missed it, here's a link to an interesting comp article I did not too long ago, comparing Smith and Adrian G:
