METS SIGN RHP TREVOR MAY
FLUSHING, N.Y., December 2, 2020 – The New York Mets today announced that they have signed RHP Trevor May to a two-year contract.
May, 31, has the 13th-lowest batting average against (.196) over the last two years in the majors (minimum 85.0 innings). May also has the 17th-highest strikeout per nine innings (12.01) in the majors since 2019.
The 6-5, 240-pounder went 1-0 with two saves, a 3.86 ERA (10 earned runs/23.1 innings), and 38 strikeouts in 24 games for the Minnesota Twins in 2020. He ranked second in the American League with 14.66 strikeouts per nine innings (minimum 20.0 innings). In addition, he threw 143 pitches at 96 mph or faster.
“Trevor has proven to be a quality performer over the last few seasons,” said Mets President Sandy Alderson. “His addition brings flexibility and added depth to our bullpen.”
Over the last three years (2018-2020), May is 10-4 with a 3.19 ERA (40 earned runs/113.0 innings) and 153 strikeouts in 113 games with the Twins. During the last three seasons, he has stranded 38 of 49 inherited runners (77.6 percent), tied for the 19th-best percentage in the majors during that span (minimum 45 inherited runners).
May has gone 23-21 with seven saves, a 4.44 ERA (156 earned runs/316.0 innings) and 367 strikeouts in 215 career games with Minnesota.
May was the valedictorian at Kelso (WA) High School in 2008. In his free time, he writes and produces house music as well as live DJ’s under several monikers. He is a regular streamer for Luminosity under the name “IamTrevorMay” on Twitch.tv. May’s specialty game is Fortnite.
