Zack Gelof Virginia 3B
Ht: 6-3 | Wt: 205 | B-T: R-R
Commit/Drafted: Indians 2018 (38)
Age At Draft: 21.7
Gelof was a talented two-way prospect out of high school in Delaware—ranking as the No. 333 prospect in the 2018 class—but showed more upside as a hitter with a solid mix of tools. The Indians drafted him in the 38th round but he made his way to campus at Virginia, where he’s been an impressive hitter. Gelof is a career .321/.399/.472 hitter with the Cavaliers and also hit at a high level in the Northwoods League (.349/.426/.490) in the summer of 2019. Gelof has solid bat-to-ball skills and a chance for 55-grade power at the next level, but he’s also struck out at a 20.2% rate, while walking just 3.8% of the time. A high-probability third baseman at the next level, Gelof has average arm strength but a chance to be an above-average defender at the hot corner. While he’s not a burner, he has solid speed that plays better than you would expect on the bases, and he’s stolen 20 bags in 26 chances (76.9% success rate) with Virginia. Gelof’s well-rounded profile, hitting track record and chance to remain in the infield should have him solidly in the mix of day one players.

28. 3B Zack Gelof
School: Virginia | B / T: R / R | Ht: 6’3 | Wt: 205lbs | Age: 21.7
An athletic 6’3 with a strong body and upper half. A solid Hit tool (55) with consistent hard line drive contact, and I think as he develops into his game he will start running into a few more in-game HR as he enters pro ball, and show 20+ HR Potential. Although the offensive game has come with some swing and miss to this point (104:58 K:BB Ratio), he has shown improvements as of late, in his last 58 games including time in the Northwoods League and sophomore season at Virginia. With Above-average (55) Speed, Gelof has stolen 42 bases in just 113 collegiate games. Should settle as a 10-15 SB per season. Smart and aggressive baserunner.
Defensively, Gelof plays an athletic 3B. Shows very well making plays down the line. Shows quick reactions to show off that athleticism. The (55) Arm is capable of making throws on the move going into foul territory and in the hole, on the move and multiple arm angles. Overall a very strong profile that doesn’t have a ton of flaws other than the swing and miss concerns. With athleticism to step out to the OF if needed, similar in style to a Brian Anderson type profile.

Mack's spin -
Gelof reminds me a lot like Brett Baty. Average in the field but deadly with a bat in his hand. Gelof has never not hit at any level in any league and I expect that to continue throughout his baseball career.
I project him having a stable major league career as a starter at third and I expect him gone on Day 2.
