Mets.com: Masters of chaos, gritty Mets never 'flinched'. The Mets lost three leads but erased multiple deficits en route to one of their wildest, wackiest wins of the season: a 15-11, 11-inning victory over the Reds at Great American Ball Park. In a game that featured seven Mets homers, multiple blown saves and nearly five hours of baseball, New York finally sealed things with a five-run rally in the 11th.

Mets.com: Stat of Day: Back-to-back into record books. “The Mets on Monday became the second team in AL/NL history to hit back-to-back homers in both the first inning and extra innings of the same game, joining the 1950 Pirates in accomplishing that feat. Pete Alonso and Jeff McNeil went back-to-back in the first inning of New York's 15-11 win over the Reds, before Kevin Pillar and Michael Conforto did the same in the 11th.”

SNY.TV: What's next? The Mets have still not announced a starter for their game on Tuesday against the Reds at 7:10 p.m. on SNY. Wade Miley (7-4, 2.80 ERA) will pitch for Cincinnati.

Mets.com: Mets skipper Rojas suspended 2 games. “Mets manager Luis Rojas has been suspended two games for what Major League Baseball deemed “excessive arguing” during the first inning of Sunday’s 7-6 comeback win over the Pirates.”

NY Post: The Mets need to make a trade for Kris Bryant. “This is about now. The Mets haven’t won a postseason game since the 2015 World Series, and if Bryant can handle the pressure of helping the Cubs win their historic title, he can handle the pressure of helping a New York team return to the playoffs for the first time in five years.”

New York Mets sold
Omar Quintanilla to the Baltimore Orioles on July 20, 2012.

1965: Seven is a lucky number for the Braves as they score seven runs in the 7th to beat the Mets, 7 - 1. Hank Aaron's two-run homer, off Larry Miller, is the capper on the scoring.

1985: Driving in seven runs on two homers, Darryl Strawberry leads the Mets to a 16 - 4 drubbing of the visiting Braves. Straw's first home run is a grand slam in the 1st inning and his next is a three-run home run in the 4th. The Mets also get homers from Howard JohnsonDanny Heep and Clint Hurdle.

1995 - Mets OF Brett Butler strokes four hits, but it is not enough to prevent an 8 - 6 New York loss to the Cardinals. The hits give Butler 15 for his last four games, one shy of the record of 16 set by Brooklyn's Milt Stock in 1925.

2014 - In his fifth major league start, Odrisamer Despaigne comes within four outs of throwing the first no-hitter in the history of the San Diego Padres. The Mets' Daniel Murphy breaks his bid with a two-out double in the 8th, and David Wright follows with a single that ties the score at 1 - 1, ending Despaigne's day. Joaquin Benoit is the winner after the Padres score in the bottom of the 9th for a 2- 1 win.

I love offense. Nothing like a potent offense.

I hate bad defense. Nothing worse than bad defense.

Can excuse Guillorme though. He has been amazing on defense the last two years. Everyone can have a bad night. Heck, even Felix Millan made an error in the 73 World Series and Jerry Grote in that same series had a pass ball that cost them game 3. Difference this year is that the bats have come alive to pick up defensive miscues.

Guillorme tried to do too much to compensate. A learning experience.

Fargas DFA'd for roster reasons. Wonder if someone else will grab him.

I don't get the fascination with Bryant.

He simply puts Davis/Villar on the bench.

That's only a marginal upgrade -- and it might not even be that. I would hate to see the Mets give up talent for Bryant.

I do like that he can play a little outfield.

They need pitching. They need another bullpen arm. They need another "bridge" starter.

And if Jake doesn't get back to full health, we're screwed anyway.

In the category of "just saying", the Mets offense has scored 29 runs in the three games since Lindor left the line-up.

Tom Brennan said...

Bob I think it is not a Lindor factor so much as the big hitters have awakened. But, when Lindor returns, put him in the right spot in the line up. If that is 7th (not saying it is) so be it.

Jimmy, Bryant is hitting .176 with a sub-.300 slug % over his last 30 games. Why would we want that? We had that the first 80 games this year. We want an electric bat - or nothing.

Jimmy, Tylor Megill will step up to # 1 starter if Jake can't do it LOL.

Oddly, if Carrasco and Thor come back 100%, they might be able to circumvent Jake's absence - but only if the boys hit like they are capable of. Which is, like a top 10 offensive team.

Edwin needs to locate better. To a fine hitter like Winker, to throw 100 but dead center of the plate is dangerous. And it was game-tying dangerous.

Here's a new longshot to consider - LHP Josh Walker. He is now in Syracuse after being promoted from Binghamton and Brooklyn. Combined to throw a no-no in AA. He could be the nect Megill.
