Dyer hits one-out triple in 9th
JUPITER, Fla. (July 16, 2021) – The Palm Beach Cardinals shut out the St. Lucie Mets 7-0 at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium on Friday night. (Box Score)
The Cardinals lost a no-hit bid with one out in the ninth inning when Matt Dyer hit a triple to deep right-center field off of John Beller.
Cardinals starter Dionys Rodriguez (3-0) kept the Mets out of the hit column through 5.0 innings. He walked one, hit a batter and struck out four.
Beller pitched the final 4.0 innings to get the save in his first career relief appearance. He hit a batter and struck out seven in earning the save.
The Cardinals only scored on of their seven runs on a hit. Their first two runs scored against Mets starter Franklin Parra on RBI ground outs in the second and third innings by Matt Koperniak and Masyn Winn.
Koperniak scored from third base on a wild pitch in the fifth inning to make it 3-0.
The Cardinals broke the game open with three runs in the seventh. Tommy Jew hit a RBI triple off of Sammy Tavarez to make it 4-0. After Tavarez walked the bases loaded, Mets reliever Brailin Gonzalez came in and walked the first two batters to force in runs to make it 6-0.
Winn added another run-scoring ground out in the eighth that plated Donivan Williams, who reached on a walk and advanced two bases on wild pitches.
Parra (3-2) took the loss for the Mets. He pitched 5.0 solid innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits. He walked four and struck out one.
Mets pitchers walked a total of 12 batters in the loss.
Todd Lott went 2 for 2 with two doubles and two walks for the Cardinals.
The Mets (33-31) and Cardinals (25-38) play the fifth game of their series on Saturday. First pitch at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
