Mack - Draft Thoughts: Hayden Murphy, Brandon Barriera, Daniel Susac, Brennan Milone, Elijah Green

9-9-21 - Prospects Live - 2022 MLB DRAFT - TOP 150 PROSPECTS -

74 Hayden Murphy

RHP

Tiftarea Academy

Chula, GA Good, athletic, whippy arm. 90-92 generally. Slider shows two-plane break with good late bite.

8-23-21 - Perfect Game All-American Classic  @PGAllAmerican

Hayden Murphy (GA) w/ a smooth, fluid operation and easy low-90s heat. Lots of whip to the arm & flashed a hard SL @ 86

Mack's spin -

Prospects Live has him ranked as the 92nd prospect in 2022.

I list him as my 17th RHP.

8-23-21 - prospects live -

 BRANDON BARRIERA, LEFT-HANDED PITCHER

In the fourth inning for the East squad Barriera walked speedster Justin Crawford to start the inning. Crawford and his 80-grade wheels proceeded to take both second and third base. But Barriera would have the last laugh. Barriera locked down the inning, striking out two and inducing a weak ground ball. It’s about as heavy a fastball as you can find with darting gyro action and some natural cut, topping out at 94. He mixed in a slower mid-80s slider with two-plane break and a big, deep curveball he threw around the zone to keep hitters timing off. It was a professional showing from Barriera who has the stuff and operation to project a starter at the next level with high-level, advanced stuff.

Mack's spin -

A big time prospect.

My 5th southpaw.

 9-9-21 - Prospects Live - 2022 MLB DRAFT - TOP 150 PROSPECTS -

15. Daniel Susac

Catcher, Arizona

A big, tall, switch hitting catcher, Susac immediately brings back visions of Matt Wieters at Georgia Tech. Susac has a very good arm behind the plate, and more explosiveness and lateral mobility than most catchers his size do. But this guy will make his money with the bat. A potential plus hitter with plus power, Susac projects a middle-of-the-order impact bat, a run producer and an impact player up the middle of the field.

8-22-21 -

Mack -  I have Kevin Parada, Logan Tanner, and Hayden Dunhurst as my top three catchers here. Am missing anyone?

Daniel Susac is almost assuredly a better offensive prospect than Tanner or Dunhurst. Matt Wieters kind of player. Keep an eye on Johnathan French at Clemson and Jimmy Crooks at Oklahoma

2021 Arizona stat line - 61-G, 242-AB, .335/.392/.591, 12-HR, 65-RBI, 47-K

Mack's spin -

Frankly, I had Susac ranked far lower until Joe pointed out this.

He has produced big time stats for a big time school.

Now... my 2nd catcher.

8-16-21 - Prospects Live - Pacific Northwest Prospects -

BRENNAN MILONE

Infielder (3B)

Oregon

Milone had a massive freshman campaign but really scuffled in his sophomore year at South Carolina. Looking for a fresh start, he transferred to Oregon where he'll look to rekindle a hit tool that took a step back in 2021. Milone is a solid defender up the middle with an above average arm for the infield. He has plus raw power, but struggles to get to it at times due to some swing and miss and approach flaws. With Kacevich at shortstop, Milone likely slots in at third base.

2021 Gamecock’s stat line - 38-G, 116-AB, .216, 2-HR

Mack's spin -

Prospects Live ranked him as the 29th (!) prospect.

I moved him over to third and have him 4th there, far below 29th overall.

8-5-21 - Prospects Live

Elijah Green

Yes, Elijah Green is still a freak of nature. Coming in as the best player in this year’s prep class, Green did nothing to knock him off that pedestal. At 6’3”, 225 pounds, Green ran a very impressive 6.16 60 time and threw 94 MPH from the outfield during his workouts. In game, Green legged out an infield single with a 4.09 home-to-first and showcased his hard-hitting ability in two other at-bats, with a long opposite field flick and a flaming line drive that ate up a Vegas Gold infielder in the second game. Might not have been what you would expect, but nonetheless he got every opportunity to show off his tools and passed the test. As long as Green can limit the strikeouts throughout the rest of this cycle, you’re looking at one of the favorites to go 1.1 next July.

Mack's spin -

Mr. Numero Uno.

Odd to think that Susac may be older than Alvarez.

We desperately need Alvarez to be a super catcher and hopefully that can be by mid-2022. He may well be a better hitter than McCann right now.

I agree.

Definitely will be OD 2023 starter.

I can hit better than McCann right now.
