Wold hits tying triple, scores go-ahead run
PRESS RELEASE: PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (Sept. 14, 2021) – The St. Lucie Mets came from behind to win a crucial 2-1 game over the Jupiter Hammerheads on Tuesday night at Clover Park (Box Score).
The Mets entered the six-game series needing to win five of the games to overtake the Hammerheads and win the Low-A Southeast East Division. Now the Mets need to win four of the final five contests.
On Tuesday, Jupiter led 1-0 through five innings. Alex Ramirez started the Mets sixth inning rally with a leadoff single off Luis Palacios. Jack-Thomas Wold then ripped a RBI triple into right field to bring home Ramirez and tie the game 1-1. Two batters later JT Schwartz hit a long sac fly to center field to plate Wold for a 2-1 lead.
Sammy Tavarez pitched a perfect seventh inning.
Franklin Sanchez pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning then worked around a one-out walk in the ninth inning to finish out the game for his first save. He struck out Marcus Chiu looking to end the game on the 11th pitch of the at-bat.
Mets starter Robert Colina (3-1) was excellent. He fired 6.0 excellent innings, scattering four hits and allowing just one run. He walked one and struck out seven. Colina retired the final seven Hammerheads he faced.
Colina, Tavarez and Sanchez did not give up a hit to the final 18 batters. At one point they combined to retire 15 in a row.
Wold went 3 for 4. Ramirez was 2 for 4.
Palacios (5-6) took a tough loss for Jupiter. He limited the Mets to two runs on four hits over 6.0 innings.
The Mets (57-54) and Hammerheads (60-53) play the second game of their series at Clover Park on Wednesday at 12:10 p.m.
