Vientos has to be factored in for 2022. Another frustrating season with time missed. But he has been a total beast with the bat since early June. .300+, a HR every 9 at bats.
Mack I love the Polar bear but don't want to lose Dom because he needs to play the field to excel I believe so him splitting 1st base and DH with Pete would be my solution. I love Tom's idea with Vientos and how about he and Lee splitting LF and overall if we don't make the playoffs next year it's then time to blow it up and bring up the kids for 23'.
Freeman has been a remarkable bargain for the Braves. He will turn 33 next year. If the Mets bite, he will go into steep career decline. If they don't, he'll win a few more MVP awards. The Mets seem to be cursed.
First baseman don't decline as fast as more athletic demanding positions, but I am dead set against any more 34+ players coming in as the solution. You have ample talent in-house with Alonso, Smith and (everyone forgets) J.D. Davis, so I don't see playing up for an older player in his twilight years is a solution.
Bob W is right, of course. It's obvious. Pete Alonso is the 1B.
For fans who want him to be DH, that's not going to make him happy (or productive) at all.
Pete is a young, power-hitting batter who isn't getting paid yet. Down the road, when arbitration hits, the Mets will have to make a decision. That time has not come. Enjoy the cheap production at 1B and move on to other issues.

I want to build a lasting winner
Pete Alonso has improved his defense to go along with all-star hitting
He also is becoming a promotional leader for the team.
Needs to temper the macho but he is my full time first baseman through arbitration.

Do you mean Vientos for 1B?
My bad, Mack. I overlooked that. Vientos could be a stud 1B, but I don’t see that happening on the Mets.

Reese, I agree, and a good Freddie comparison is Adrian Gonzalez, and he went soft in his mid 30s
There are a lot of areas on the Mets that need fixing. First base is not one of them. Stick with Pete.
