Good morning.
Yesterday, Steve Cohen and the Mets made three major free agent signings. Eduardo Escobar, Mark Canha, and Starling Marte.
Not one Mets writer, blogger, beater, or twitterer had nothing on this.
Nothing.
Including me.
Which goes to prove anything you read saying what the Mets are going to do, or are soon doing, is pure speculation on behalf of the writer.
Nothing more.
What is the purpose, you say, on doing this? Well, some are selling hits or papers, others subscriptions, and a few of us actually receive information from others which we forget is speculation from them also.
Then there are the few, all on social media, that seem to be trying to justify their own importance in the online world by pulling something out of their ass and putting it to ink.
Whatever reason doesn’t matter. It still is only speculation and proves once again that the hull of the Good Ship Mets no longer has any leaks.

As for the signs…
Good things come in threes, and who or why they were signed on the same day, just around the corner from the lockout, will be left to your speculation, not mine.
As for the players signed:
Escobar looks like he will step in as the everyday third baseman in 2022. He also is capable of playing short, second, and first, in case anyone goes down there with an injury.
Escobar produced a 2.4 WAR in 2021 and is a switch hitter.
Cahna will probably start at one of the corner positions (along with Brandon Nimmo). He also can play first base.
Cahna produced a 2.5 WAR in 2021 and bats from the right side.
Marte will be the starting center fielder. Probably will be the leadoff hitter.
Marte produced a 4.7 WAR in 2021. He also is a righty.

Second base remains fluid.
Currently possibilities include a re-signing of Javy Baez, or some combination of Jeff McNeil, Robinson Cano, and Luis Guillorme.

Well I hope this puts an end to Baez
Not saying that he is a bad player but we should not want anyone who disrespect us
After all you better be Mickey mantle to be that way
Otherwise a flawed player with a flawed attitude is not the investment
See cespedes if you need a reminder
I dislike the Canha deal, and I think it's about time everyone recognizes that Jeff McNeil is not a throw-away or a trade chip. After a down year in 2021, he's going to come back with a vengeance next year.
Here's what you should know before you throw a mediocre acquisition into left field just because he didn't contribute to last year's disappointment:
Canha is a lifetime .244 hitter - his slash line is .244/.344/.431. In the last 2 years he has a .976 fielding percentage in 926 innings playing left field.
By contrast, Jeff McNeil is a lifetime .299 hitter - his line is .299/.364/.824. In the last 2 years he has a .977 fielding percentage in 432 innings playing left field.
Canha will cost the Mets $13.25M next year (assuming an equal split in the 2 yr contract)
McNeil will cost the Mets $2.5M next year.
The grass was not greener in Oakland. Keep McNeil, package Canha, get some starting pitching!!!!!!
Great points Paul. You want to sign Canha - great. But at $13.5 a year? Over Pillar's $6.5M option? Strange.
The key with these deals will be ditching them when they falter in a few years.
Mets will badly need a manager that plays the best players every day and not care about who gets paid the most.
As far as McNeil Vs. Beaz - Lindor wants him. I think the Mets are gonna pay him.
You hit the nail on the head, Mack.
Three good signings for just a bit more then Javy will likely get……….I also like the terms of the deals (not a decade, for example). Keeps a few paths open for our prospects, in a couple years time.
Oh and I don’t see the McNeil/Canha issue? Jeff should be the starter at 2B and Canha likely plays LF going forward, right?
Now we need some healthy pitchers.
Exciting times. If Baez truly wants 6 years, $200 million, one has to wonder why not stay with cheap McNil and spend on pitching, pitching, pitching?
I can only speculate on Canha Polla and Jeff but I am now out of the speculation end.of this game.
Going forward. I am rip and read and will only speculate on my private text feed

Disagree. Lindor & Baez would give us a championship quality middle infield defense. Not only are they both spectacular fielders, they both have speed & pop. Sorry if you were ruffled by the thumbs down. Hope you're not a fan who boos the home team.
Baez is still a swing and miss machine that can be pitched to. I’m also against the move and don’t care who’s buddy he is. In fact, Paul’s point about McNeil on the money.
I would have liked to see them take a shot at Suzuki, but unless they expect Nimmo to get hurt, there’s no reason for it. Suzuki, Marte and Escobar would have been a better package but I’m sure they called on Suzuki, so, he may want to be elsewhere.
I also feel that these guys were an appetizer and the main dish is the pitching. Scherzer and Kershaw? Me likes, me likes, Gausman and one of those two? A step down, but… ok. Any other combo would feel like Canha again instead of Suzuki.
Nickel, my problem is Baez rumors of 6 years, $200 million. That makes for a long marriage with him, Lindor, and the Mets.
Look I get all of your points but at 74 I'm tired of waiting to just get us into the playoffs and I'm sure SC wants the WS title as badly as we all do and it's time to stop the excuses and take a quantim leap forward and they just did that. Stevie's first year was a bust but I'm sure he learned something from it and as much as I hated the Lindor contract if it's a piece to the puzzle I can live with it. We'll know soon enough if money is no object in his search for a title because 14 billion goes along way and as much as we all love the "build it from the ground approach" the Wilpon's and the Madoff disaster has left me with that line in my head of "the first step is admitting you have a problem" which Fred and Jeffy failed to do. So upward and onward and lets get this done. I would still love Suzuki added both for his speed at the top of the lineup and Suzuki Samaurai T shirts filling the stadium. I also want Baez at 2nd then go all pitching because hey its only money right.
Gary, you don't look a day over 69 :)
But the urgency of winning now increases as the twilight years arrive. I turned 68 recently. Don't feel like it, but there it is. Last World Series win? I was 33. Never would have thought 68 would arrive with no more rings.
Look at the Jets and Knicks. I was a teenager. But their titles were 50 years ago.
Yes Tom 69-70 was a hell of a year plus for 3 Championships and at 22 I was thinking this is sure great bring it on....NOT! Oh well lets just hope Daddy warbucks comes through.
Hey Lindor,Baez up the middle is great for me. Gausman would be great but if it’s Stroman I’m good with it.
Gary, the Mets and Nets could win in 2022. The Jets? DOn't think so.
Bear, Cohen may not care about how much he spends on Baez and starters to become immediately an odds-on favorite to win it all.
