Wilfredo Tovar is a freak, a hitting machine. At least in Winter Ball.

Tovar did well for Syracuse as well last year. He led team with 51 RBIs and did not play the entire season. Not sure he will be back in 'Cuse next year with Ronnie Mauricio, Manny Rodriguez, Carlos Cortes, and maybe Wilmer Reyes on tue squad next year to man the middle infield.

John, Tovar probably would have squeezed in more MLB time if they mandated a 15 man offense on a 27 man roster. Seems a lot like Buddy Harrelson to me. Buddy played back in the days of 15.

Buddy was an All Star and an elite defender that at one time held the record for consecutive errorless games by a Shortstop. Good fielding SS are no longer in fashion. That is why you have Prospects make 11 errors in 20 games at SS and no one is concerned.

Games back when Buddy played were typically 2.5 to 3 hours. Now, 3.5 to 4 hours. But hey, everybody loves baseball right? Not like the sport is dying or anything.

John, I just wonder if Tovar in the 1960s would have been good enough to be at least a back up SS.

Tom - definitely. Back then teams had full benches. They only carried 9-10 pitchers. They would carry good glove guys and players who would pinch hit for them late in games.
