Tom Brennan: Frankie Montas

Montas Back in 2019 with the A’s

Sean Manaea on Frankie Montas:

“I’m super excited [for the Mets signing Montas]. I love him to death. I’m very happy to be reunited with him,” Manaea said. “... He is a funny guy. He is very passionate about pitching. He goes out there and is a dog. He is tough and he is incredible, too.”

Fangraphs projects this for Montas:

10-8, 4.05 in 155 innings.

What’s so bad about Frankie Montas for SP-5?

I think Montas will be one of Stearns best additions to this team

Mack, any guy who can fan 38 in 24 September innings has to be taken seriously.

Will he be an SP-1, though? No. That's why we need a bullpen that is stronger than the one that exists today.

I like this signing. I think Montas will be the 2025 version of Severino.

R69, I agree.

I agree with Mack as well. I think that Montas has big upside, and could turn out to be one of the best contracts of the offseason.

Adam, Montas has been sent to the lab and will be pitching under the name Jason Bourne in 2025. I have high hopes for Frankie.

Sounds like an ultimatum. Wish I felt as confident as you.

The Mets have signed 16 prospects today in the International signing day. Their top signing, Pena, is ranked by several sources as one of the top 3 prospects. Source is Baseball America.
