In Focus - Matt Allan - YESTERDAY'S HIGHLIGHTS

Thomas Nestico        @TJStats

Matt Allan
(NYM) looked sharp in his 2025 debut in Lo-A as he averaged 96 MPH on his fastball and weaved in a solid cutter.

Allan has missed a lot of time with injuries since being drafted in 2019 and it looks like he is ready to make up for lost time!

Mack –

This story was written for a movie starring Robert Redford.

The Mets pitcher, Matt Allan, hadn’t thrown a pitch in play in the last 2,045 days… until Sunday. First pitch… 96mph. Strikes out first batter on another 96mph pitch. Three strikeouts in the first inning. Fastball now hitting 97. Strikes out another on a breaking ball. 96-97 in the second. Cutter 90-91.

Mets had

on a strict pitch count, and he was pulled before he could finish three innings. End line:    2.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K, 44 pitches/28 strikes

You go to the graph and you really don’t see things sticking out.

40 of his 44 pitches were either the 4-seamer or the cutter.

Allan had a 100% chase rate using his sinker, but that was a total of only two pitches.

And his total whiff rate was 30.4%

You need to analyze this form the results and they were totally dominant.

Is he back? Ask me after three more starts and at least a 70 count.

Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Mets got off to a hot start but cooled off late in an 8-4 loss to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on Sunday afternoon at NBT Bank Stadium. Joey Meneses had three doubles and two RBIs in the game for the Mets.

Syracuse (3-5) jumped on top in the bottom of the first inning. José Azocar led off with a walk, stole second base, and moved to third on a Billy McKinney fly out to center field. Azocar scored when Jon Singleton singled to right field for a 1-0 Mets lead. Meneses followed with a double down the left-field line, bringing Singleton home from first to make it a 2-0 game.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (5-4) was initially shut down by Syracuse starting pitcher Brandon Waddell. The left-hander allowed only three hits and one walk in four and two-thirds shutout innings while striking out five batters.

Binghamton Falls Despite Strong Pitching Performances

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (1-1) fell to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon in the series finale at Delta Dental Stadium.

One unearned run was the difference in the game. Binghamton’s pitching staff has not allowed an earned run over 18 innings across the first two games of the 2025 season.

Right-hander Nolan McLean made his first start of the season and struck out eight batters over four scoreless innings, while allowing three hits and no walks.

Hammerheads blank Mets 6-0 in series finale

Allan strikes out 5, pitched 2.2 scoreless innings in first game since 2019

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (April 6, 2025) – The Jupiter Hammerheads pitched their second shutout in three games and defeated the St. Lucie Mets 6-0 in the Sunday series finale at Clover Park. Jupiter took two of three in the series.

The top storyline of the day was the return to game action for Mets prospect Matt Allan. The Mets third round pick from the 2019 draft had not pitched in a game since 2019 due to the canceled 2020 season and multiple elbow surgeries.

Allan pitched 2.2 shutout innings and struck out five batters. He scattered two hits and walked one. Allan struck out three batters in the first inning. He surrendered a leadoff triple in the second inning to Dillon Head but rebounded with consecutive strikeouts and a ground out to escape unscathed.

Allan retired the first two batters of the third inning then walked Andres Valor to top out at 44 pitches.

Daniel Wexler        @WexlerRules

Robert Dominguez struggled with his command (1 inning 3 walks) but just being back out there for the first time since 2021 is the key stat for today

Mike Mayer            @mikemayer22

Max Kranick has faced 22 batters with the Mets and retired 21 of them.

In an attempt to focus on other prospects other than Matt Allan,  St Lucie Mets C Daiverson Gutierrez already has a single in today's game. The 19 year old had a solid 2024 season and fantastic camp. He might jump up the rankings in system this season.

Mets P prospect Juan Arnaud doing what he does in Low A St. Lucie. Hit a batter but also topped 99 mph. Today he went 0.2 scoreless.  (I'd say it was hitless but you know)

Mets P prospect Zach Thornton today final line in High A

John From Albany -

Mets have made the following Minor League Roster Moves:

RHP Luis Moreno - Transferred from AA Binghamton to AAA Syracuse.  Luis Moreno was named the Rookie of the Year in the Dominican League this past Winter.  After two years in Binghamton, it was surprising to see him start the year in AA.

Brooklyn Cyclones transferred RHP Brian Metoyer to the Development List.  Brian has been dealing with injuries these last two years, last seeing action in 2022 (6 Binghamton games).  He was a minor league Free Agent last Winter, resigning with the Mets in December 2024.

RHP Alfred Vega assigned to Syracuse Mets from Brooklyn Cyclones.

RHP José Marte assigned to Binghamton Rumble Ponies.  Jose recently signed a two-year minor league contract as he works his way back from shoulder surgery.

Binghamton Rumble Ponies placed RHP Dylan Tebrake on the 7-day injured list.

Binghamton Rumble Ponies transferred RHP Justin Lawson to the Development List.

Brooklyn Cyclones transferred C Onix Vega to the Development List.

Brooklyn Cyclones placed LHP Ryan Ammons on the 7-day injured list.

Syracuse Mets transferred RHP Yacksel Ríos from the 7-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.

This caught my eye - from the NY Post
:
"Red Sox OF Jarren Duran attempted suicide during the 2022 season, he revealed in the Netflix docuseries “The Clubhouse: A Year With the Red Sox.”

During the series on the 2024 Red Sox, which releases Tuesday, Duran, 28, delves into the tumultuous start to his MLB career before becoming an All-Star last season and how his play, and the negative fan reaction to his performance, affected him mentally.

“I was already hearing it from fans,” Duran says, per MLB.com. “And what they said to me, [it was like], ‘I’ve told myself 10 times worse in the mirror.’ That was a really tough time for me. I didn’t even want to be here anymore.”

When the Netflix director asked if “here” meant the Red Sox or on Earth, Duran said, “probably both. Yeah. Probably both. I got to a point where I was sitting in my room, I had my rifle and I had a bullet and I pulled the trigger and the gun clicked, but nothing happened. So, to this day, I think God just didn’t let me take my own life because I seriously don’t know why it didn’t go off."
