Paul Articulates – Talking to the new guys – Jefferson Rojas

With five of the new trade acquisitions assigned to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, there is a lot of excitement at the AA level.  The team recently gave us the opportunity to speak with them about their journey and their new team.

First up, Jefferson Rojas, the new #1 prospect in the Mets’ organization.  Rojas was acquired from the Chicago Cubs for Clay Holmes and Tyrone Taylor.  Rojas is a 21 year old Dominican who was signed as an International Free Agent ($1M) in 2022.  He slashed .270/.339/.461 in Knoxville (AA) this season before the trade.  He has a very controlled swing and great pitch recognition.  According to MLB.com, he has scouting grades of 55(hit); 50(power); 50(run); 50(field); and 60(arm).

Here is what Jefferson had to say (as translated by Chris Suero):

Q: Clearly the Mets have invested a lot in their future by bringing you here.   In your words, what do you bring to this organization?

A: I am definitely grateful.  The Mets saw something in me, so I am here to keep showcasing my skills and show the world what I have.

Q: Talk about being the number one prospect in the organization and how that feels?

A: I am very grateful for the opportunity.  I am going to keep working hard and help the team in the near future.

Q: You have made a couple of starts in Binghamton already, what have you seen in the clubhouse so far?

A: The clubhouse has been amazing. The team has a lot of great guys and a lot of talent.  He is grateful to be here.

Q: What do you think it would be loke to play for the Mets in NYC?

A: It would be filled with emotions.  It is one of the biggest markets in the game, so it would be amazing to debut with the Mets there.

Q: What MLB players did you grow up rooting for?

A: I always watched the Boston Red Sox and New York Mets growing up. My favorite players were Manny Ramirez and Ronald Acuna.
