MACK. - DIRTY LAUNDRY - Betting Scandal, New Coaches, Antoan, Japan

Good morning

I’ve been following this NBA scandal and my only hope here is, if found guilty, these scum bags receive the same kind of penalty that Pete Rose did back in the day. Frankly, if they are found guilty of what they are being charged with, they deserve a one-way trip to Rikers. Imagine how quick that basketball team would improve? The least I am going to be happy with here is a lifetime ban from the sport they play or coach. Coach. Unbelievable.

I’m really falling in love with this new coach’s squad. Kai Correa, Jeff Albert, and Troy Snicker all bring their own thing into this mix.

Correa brings defensive coaching, infield instruction, baserunning and game strategy to the plate. Boy, is he going to be busy on this team. Now, all he has to do is someone to listen to him. Also, a big-time analytics-driven approach to player development. Speaks every language that’s used in the clubhouse.

Albert is known as a renowned hitting expert. Teaches exercise science, whatever that is. Master’s Degree in Exercise Science. Again… Specializes in data analysis to reduce injuries and optimize swings. Played college ball at Butler (.284). A total package.

Snicker is an expert in player rehab and hitting mechanics. Former infielder for the Braves. Then… here comes another Master’s Degree… this one was at North Georgia in Exercise Science. Crafted powerhouse offenses for Astros, including the WS winner year of 2022 (106 wins).

Don’t think it was his bucket.

Folks, these are three real deal guys that do things the 2026 way, not walking around with a cigarette in one hand and a fungo bat in the other.

Nice start.

Now let’s do catching and pitching.

And first base.

Seems the Mets and first base coach Antoan Richardson did not "come to terms" to return as the Soto-base mentor. "Not coming to terms" means one walked out of the meeting or the other one asked the one across from them to walk out of the room. Either way, I find this sad. This guy really added big-time to helping Juan Soto hone his craft on the basepaths. Thank you Antoan. You did nothing to cause this team to miss.

Boy, did the Mets miss in Japan. I watched that video of Susuki, Yamamoto, and Ohtani playing catch out in the outfield before Game 4 an I wanted to vomit. New York has tons of Japanese living there. Is the extra three hours in a private jet while your hot flight attendant serves you three more sakes, on your trip home to your homeland, really the difference here? It sure as hell isn't the tax base. Why didn't the Mets open a sub-office of scouts over there with an open buffet 24/7? What's the Japanese word for oy-vay?

So Albert has a Masters degree in exercise science can he please figure out how to stop the dreaded oblique injury which before the 21st century I never heard of....again please! The Richardson thing is baffling because how much money are we really talking about here? He will be missed and that the one he helped most was Soto makes this more puzzling hell Juan should just pay him with a small cut of his lunch money and I wonder what Soto thinks of all this. What it all comes down to is very small things in the end like not resigning Iglasias and/or Bader last year and although he's only a coach if Soto's SB's drop to lets say half his 25 numbers I would think that would be noticeable and that's also not the rest of the team so who's really responsible here?

I am on the same page Gary. Well said

There's no reason to assume the conflict was about money. It's more likely he wants to try for one of the higher positions that are open throughout MLB.

Soto and all other players are adults who can adjust to coaching and culture changes with time. Iglesias had one of the worst hitter seasons possibly ever this year and Bader was terrible down the stretch with us—his success with the Phillies was largely BABIP mirage.

Having an owner who spends has really convinced fans that all changes or potential changes are about money. Richardson leaves? It must be because we decided to be cheap! Talk of Alonso walking? Just pay him!

When you have an owner who can spend, term and other contractual details become more central factors. I would think more would understand this after Soto accepted a monetarily worse contract to come here because of other factors, (or that Snell, Eovaldi, Yamamoto all turned down better to go elsewhere.)

Gary, I’d almost prefer Soto steal less. One injury can screw things up royally.

Everyone is forgetting this system Richardson created was built mainly on timing. Soto was the perfect example having bought into this system. A career high 12 SB, now he is stealing 30+.

Does anyone remember the last few weeks of the season. Soto got picked off at least 5 times. The league actually figured it out.

I am under the impression that Richardson may have overplayed his hand and maybe overvalued his importance on this team. You can see the team has gone fully analytical...I hope they know what they are doing.

The thoughts about Richardson are totally my own feelings. I have no insight, just personal feelings. I actually liked the guy...so go figure.

Richardson may have wanted to be a bench coach, or third base coach. Can’t blame him, I would too.

Liked Richardson, hoped he would stay on. We'll never know the true story.
