I promised
all of you that, as soon as the season ended, I would breakout and post my
current Top 30 prospects.
This is
performance based, not players that came to the Mets full of promise but have
only produced butterscotch pudding. A perfect example of a player that didn’t
make this list is catcher Ronald Hernandez.
I still like the guy, but based on what he did in 2025, I don’t like him “top
30 guy”.
Nolan
McLean, Brandon Sproat, and Jonah
Tong (maybe) are not on this list. They have
graduated.
I will post
them in each of my weekly Observations and In Focus posts… one player at a
time… beginning with #30.
Today, we
move to #3:
3. SS Jett Williams
Jett Michael
Williams is a highly regarded shortstop and center fielder in the New York Mets
organization, known for his elite speed, plate discipline, and potential as a
versatile middle infielder. At just 22 years old, he's already climbed the
minor league ladder quickly and is viewed as a cornerstone of the Mets' future
lineup.
Born:
November 3, 2003, in Dallas, Texas.
High School:
Rockwall-Heath High School (Heath, TX), where he hit .347 with five home runs
as a junior and earned Offensive Player of the Year honors from The Dallas
Morning News.
College
Commitment: Originally pledged to Texas A&M before switching to Mississippi
State University.
Draft:
Selected by the Mets in the first round (14th overall) of the 2022 MLB Draft
straight out of high school. He signed for a $4.5 million bonus and bypassed
college to turn pro immediately.
Standing at
5'7" and 175 lbs, Williams is right-handed
batting and throwing. His compact frame doesn't hinder his power—scouts
praise his "sneaky pop"—but his 70-grade
speed and ability to draw walks (17.98% career rate in the minors)

In 2025,
Williams started at Double-A Binghamton before earning a promotion to Triple-A
Syracuse in August, putting him just one step from the majors. He's blocked at
shortstop by Francisco Lindor but has shown versatility in center field and
second base, which could accelerate his big-league path—potentially as early as
a 2026 everyday role or September call-up.
Strengths: Blazing speed (51 SB in 131 career
minor league games), exceptional on-base skills (130 walks in 723 PA), and
improving defense. He's drawn comparisons to athletic, high-OBP middle
infielders like early-career Jose Altuve.

seem committed to developing him as a core piece alongside prospects like
Carson Benge and Nolan McLean.

Brandon Nimmo had a great career for the Mets, I thought he
did a tremendous job last year as a true clubhouse leader, & was especially
vocal talking up our younger players. You can’t replace players like Nimmo, you
have to simply try to turn the page. If Stearns has any chance of doing that,
he will commit to Jett Williams in left
field sooner rather than later.
“JETT Force One” -> is the type of player #Mets fans will
embrace, because he offers the same type of intangibles they appreciated from
Nimmo. High-energy guy, incredible offensive potential, impacts the game in a
number of different ways on both sides of the ball. Imagine having a scout tell
your Dad -> “if your kid was 6 feet tall, he’d be a Top-5 pick…”
The kid is out for blood -> that’s the type of player we
need.
Just be patient #Mets fans reinforcements are on the way…

Pete Fairbanks is another name drawing attention after his
option was declined. He’s been mentioned alongside Diaz, Suarez and Williams as
a target for clubs like the Mets that are openly hunting “high-end bullpen
solutions,” and his stuff still grades out as late-inning quality when healthy.

I too am on the Fairbanks train. He would be a great fallback plan if Diaz bolts. He would create a great 2 headed monster with Williams. And he holds base runners on...just saying. Would also save us a lot of money to get a starter...just saying.

My picks remain Ewing and Benge, but I have switched positions with these two,,, niow have Benge in left, Ewing in center, Jett on another team, and Morabito UTOF/PR

Jett or Morabito in LF, Ewing in CF, Benge in RF (strongest arm).
With Soto as the DH. We will have to live with Alonso at 1B, if someone teaches how to throw the damn ball.

t was just a dream scenario. Getting all 4 prospects onto the team together. I'm sure in reality one or two of them will be traded.

Mack-- For giggles and community fun, why not invite everyone who is a regular contributor to provide their current prediction of the Mets 26 person roster by midnight tonite before the Winter meetings, then to offer a revision opportunity by the start of Spring Training say (owning up to mistaken predictions) and inviting overall discussion, then again as team breaks for OD a comparison of the pre-WM predictions with the start of ST predictions, and then a discussion of how each feels about the ultimate compared to their current predictions. You can also invite a second one due tonite by midnite in which each offers their fantasy 26 person roster. So up to two tonite: prediction/fantasy; one day before ST; reveal upon breaking camp and discussions thereafter going into the season with, perhaps, predictions on where the Mets will finish/what their record will be and whatever else might be interesting.
I think they view Ewing as their future CF, with Benge in a corner (RF). If so, Williams is a trade chip (and a pretty good one). Vientos, Acuña, Morabito, and Sproat are also guys I see as likely gone. Mauricio, who has an option but no real path on this roster, is probably the guy they hope rakes at Syracuse and will be a chip at the trade deadline.
