Mets Minor League Report – June 22

As I write this, Las Vegas (38-35) leads Salt Lake (41-35) 3-0 after 7 innings.
Starter D.J. Mitchell: 5.0 IP, 0 R, 4 H, 3 BB, 8 K.
He was followed by Justen Hampson: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 2 BB, 2 K.
Mike Baxter: 1-4, HR, RBI, R.
Ike Davis: 0-2, BB, R and 1 K.
Francisco Pena: 1-2, 2B, RBI.

Binghamton (45-28) stuns Erie (38-34) 6-5.
With 4 runs in the bottom of the 9th to send the game into extra innings, and a walk-off double by Josh Rodriguez, the B-Mets stun Erie wit this comeback win.
Mark Cohoon: 5.0 IP, 3 R, 6 H, (HR) 2 BB, K.
Pedro Feliciano, recently promoted to AA, pitched a perfect inning, with 1 K. Since arriving at Binghamton, Perpetual Pedro has yet to allow a hit in 3.1 innings of work.
Jeff Walters, (W, 4-2) called on to get 2 outs in the 10th inning, gets the win without allowing a baserunner.
Travis Taijeron: 1-4, HR, RBI, R. 
Rhyne Hughes: 2-4, HR, 3 RBI, R.
Wilfredo Tovar: 3-4.

Palm Beach (30-41) edges St Lucie (39-31) 6-5.
Carlos Vazquez started and went 4.0 innings: 2 R, 5 H, 0 BB, with 2 K.
Estarlin Morel (L, 4-3) took the loss, allowing 3 R, 5 H, 0 BB.
Dustin Lawley: 2-4, 3B, RBI, R.
Jayce Boyd: 2-4, RBI, R. Boyd has 3 consecutive multi-hit games since his arrival at St. Lucie. He has not had an XBH or a BB, however, so his AVG, OBP, and SLG all stand at .538.
Kevin Plawecki: 1-4.
Matt den Dekker: 2-5, R.

Lexington (2-1) blanks Savannah (1-2) 2-0.
Steven Matz pitched 6 scoreless innings, (2 H, 3 BB, 9 K) before giving way to Julian Hilario, (L, 4-3) who was called upon to pitch a 2nd inning of relief (MISTAKE!) and allowed 2 R on 3 H and 3 BB, (with 4 K) getting only one out in the 8th inning.
Cole Frenzel: 2-4, 2B.

Brooklyn (2-3) bows to Aberdeen (1-5) 5-4 in 10 innings.
After coming back from a 4 run deficit and scoring 4 runs to tie the game in the bottom of the 9th, reliever David Wynn (L, 0-1) gave up a run on 1 H and 1 BB in the top of the 10th to take the loss.
Seth Lugo started and went 4.0 innings: 1 R, 3 H, BB, 3 K.
Gavin Cecchini: 2-4, R.
L.J. Mazilli: 1-5, R.
Juan Carlos Gamboa: 2-3, BB.

Johnson City (3-0) rips Kingsport (0-3) 8-1.
Yoan Gonzalez: (L, 0-1) 2 R, 3 H, 3 BB, 2 K in 4.0 innings of work. He was followed by Andrew Massie, who was rocked for 6 R on 5 H and 2 BB in 2.1 IP. Alberto Baldinato finished the game with 2.2 hitless innings, allowing only 1 BB with 3 K.
Jeffrey Diehl: 2-3, HR, RBI, R.

GCL Nationals (2-0) edge GCL Mets (0-2) 3-2.
Tim Byrdak, in the 1st appearance of his rehab assignment, pitched a hitless innings at the start of the game, allowing only 1 BB with 1 K. Good to see Timmie on his way back. I had a long conversation with Byrdak during spring training, and he said he thought he would be ready by July. He proceeded to fool around with all the kids sitting near the bull pen and tossed them all bags of candy. You’ll never meet a nicer guy. Ah, but I difress.
Marcos Molina, who followed Byrdak, gave up 2 R, 3 H, 0 BB and got 9 K in 4.2 IP.
Gaby Almonte, (L, 0-1) pitched the final 3.0 innings, allowing 1 unearned run on 2 H, 1 BB.
Offensive bright spots for the Mets were:
Leon Cannelon: 2-3, R.
Vicente Lupo: 2-3, BB, R.
And Mets 1st round draft pick, Dominick Smith, who went 2-4, with an RBI in his pro debut.

DSL Mets1 (9-9) trample DSL Nationals (13-6) 6-1.
Starter Scarlin Reyes pitched 4.0 innings: 1 R, 0 ER, 2 H, 2 BB, 4 K.
He was followed by Luis Popa: (W, 1-1) 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 2 BB, K.
Juan Marte (S, ) got a 3 inning save, allowing 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 3 K.
Alejandro Diaz: 3-5, 3B, 2B, RBI, R.
Edwin Diaz: 2-5.
Jose Maria: 2-3, BB, RBI, R.

DSL Mets2 (11-8) crush DSL Yankees2 (11-8) 8-0.
Starter Darwin Ramos: (W, 2-0) 6.0 IP,  0 R, 3 H, 0 BB, 6 K.
Reliever Merandy Gonzalez: (S, 1) 3.0 IP,  0 R, 2 H, 2 BB, 2 K.
Alfredo Reyes: 2-5, 2B, RBI, 2R.
Enmanuel Zabala: 2-4, 2B, 3 RBI.
