B-Mets Game Notes - 4-12: Binghamton vs Erie

LAST GAME: For the second straight game, the B-Mets dug an

early hole, down 9-1 after six innings, and ran out of time to

come back, eventually falling 11-8 to Akron, which took the

series three games to one. Starter Mike Antonini got into

trouble in the fourth inning after tossing the first three in

scoreless fashion. The lefty was charged with five runs over

3.2 innings to take the loss. Nick Weglarz crushed a grand

slam off reliever Josh Stinson to put the Aeros ahead 6-0 in

that fourth. Lucas Duda answered with a run in the bottom of

the frame on a solo homer to right, his second of the season.

The B-Mets got as close as two runs after plating a run in the

eighth to make it 9-7, but the Aeros came back with two of

their own to put the game away. Designated hitter Marshall

Hubbard went 2-5 with a homer and two RBIs and Duda also

managed two hits, a homer and a double.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Eddie Kunz will make his

first professional start tonight for Binghamton and spending

his first three pro seasons in the bullpen. Last year, Kunz

made 40 appearances for Buffalo (AAA) with a 4-5 mark and a

5.02 ERA in 61 innings. He functioned as the B-Mets closer in

2008 when he racked up 27 saves. The righty was taken by

the Mets in the second round (42nd overall) in the 2007 draft.

LHP Andy Oliver will make his professional debut tonight at

NYSEG Stadium. Oliver was drafted in the second round of the

2009 draft by Detroit. The hard-throwing lefty made 11 relief

appearances for the Peoria Saguaros in the Arizona Fall

League and went 1-1 with a 2.81 ERA in 16 innings. He is

considered the No.4 prospect in the Tigers system by Baseball

America.

“O-WIN”: B-Mets righty Dylan Owen went 12 starts before his

first win in 2009, starting off 0-5 as a member of the starting

rotation. However, he got 2010 off to a solid start with a win

his first go-around Friday night thanks to five, no-hit innings of

scoreless work.

PITCHING OFF TO A SLOW START: You can’t blame the B-Mets

hitters for Binghamton’s opening series loss. They’re hitting

.321, second-best in the Eastern League, and are averaging

over seven runs a game. However, the pitching has struggled,

having allowed 30 runs over 34 innings and finds itself

at the bottom of the league with a 7.68 ERA.
