Liriano would give the Mets another proven left-hander in the rotation. Alongside Johan Santana, Liriano could become a 20-game winner for New York. Pelfrey could be a 10- to 15-game winner and R.A. Dickey can shut down a lineup when he can control his knuckleball. Pitching has limited the Mets late in the season the past three years, and the addition of Liriano could change this and give them the extra boost they need to compete in the division. - bleacherreport.
Chan Ho Park:
Japan's Orix Buffaloes agreed to a one-year deal with pitcher Chan Ho Park, according to the team's Twitter feed. The 37-year-old Korean righty posted a 4.66 ERA, 7.4 K/9, 2.7 BB/9, 1.3 HR/9, and 48.7% groundball rate for the Yankees and Pirates this year in 63 2/3 relief innings - mlbtraderumors
Dick Farrell:
Inconsistency had been the hallmark of relief ace Farrell’s career, and 1961 had been one of his down years. But when he’d been good, he’d been very good, he was still one of the harder throwers around, and he wasn’t yet 28 years old. - hardballtimes.
Pedro Martinez:
Pedro Martinez's signing was not a failure- let me get that out of the way before we get started with our final entrant onto this list. In fact, Pedro's signing HAD to happen, in order for the Mets to become relevant again in a quick fashion under new GM Omar Minaya, as signing Pedro was the lynch-pin for all of Minaya's off-season moves yet to come. Without Pedro, it's doubtful that Minaya would have been able to convince not only all-star outfielder Carlos Beltran to sign with the team, but even heralded Latin American free agent prospects like Fernando Martinez and Deolis Guerra allegedly chose the Mets because of Martinez' decision to join the orange and blue brigade. - MM
D.J. Carrasco:
The first Sandy Alderson acquisition. Carrasco has been used exclusively as a mopup man for the past three seasons, but if he can handle bigger spots, his value is going to skyrocket. You know, as much as the value for a middle reliever can skyrocket. So not really. - .patrickfloodblog.
