Mack - Okay... We're into the season and
the Mets are competitive. Andres Torres is going to be coming off the DL soon
and a change has to be made. What's your call here?
Christopher
Soto - Man this is a
tough call.... Captain Kirk is doing well and is on my HOT list this week, Bay
is actually showing a little pop and some grit, and Duda will go back to being
Duda soon. You can’t put any of them on the bench cause quite frankly Hairston
and Baxter are both doing decently well. As much as I hate to say it, Kirk is
probably going to have to go back to AAA.
Erik
Hudson - Keep Kirk
Niewenhuis as the starting CF, Torres to the bench, Baxter to AAA. If Bay struggles, or to just give him days
off against tough righties, play both Kirk and Torres
Brian
Berness - Captain Kirk
needs to get at bats, so if you are not going to keep him up here and let him
play, send him to Buffalo. If not, make Torres your 4th OF and option Baxter.
Jarod
Alley - Baxter has to be the guy to leave the big club
and in no way would I sit Kirk.
Anthony
Carnacchio - Honestly Fellas, Mr. Torres is gonna
have to take a hike... If I'm going to Citi I was to see Bay, Captain Kirk and
The Dude lined up in the OF. I don't want to see a 34 year old injury prone CF
in the outfield. They’re rebuilding, somewhat competitive and have been
exciting to watch. Don't ruin the kid's psyche by sending him down for
performing well.
Jack
Flynn - Andres Torres is a fourth outfielder on a good
baseball team. He can play all three outfield positions well and although he's
not a great base stealer, he can be used as a pinch-runner as well as a
late-inning defensive replacement.
When Torres
returns from the disabled list this week, it's not Kirk Nieuwenhuis that he
should be replacing. Nieuwenhuis is off to an excellent start in his
first-major league action and frankly, there's nothing in Torres's body of work
that suggests he's a better player right now. Some guys are just major-league
ready by the time they get to The Show, and it's possible that Nieuwenheis is
one of them.
He's not
going to finish the season with a .375 batting average, but even if Nieuwenheis
puts up numbers similar to his two full seasons in the minors, it would likely
represent an improvement of Torres's projected offensive output. Oddly enough,
Torres's best season in baseball (2010 in San Francisco) mirrors a high-end
projection for Nieuwenheis this year based on his minor-league results.
Mike Baxter
is a proud Stanner from Archbishop Molloy High School ("We Are *clap, clap*
A-M!! *clap-clap*), but he may
want to start checking out how the housing market in Buffalo is doing. When
Torres comes back, it should be in the reserve outfielder role that Baxter is
currently occupying. Torres and Scott Hairston give the Mets two versatile
veteran outfielders who can spell any of the three established starters. One or
both could even slide into a platoon role with the left-handed youngsters
(Nieuwenheis and Lucas Duda) who should be getting the majority of playing
time. (God, I miss Jack…)
Christopher
Soto - Another thing we have to think about is the Valdespin in CF
project that's currently going on in CF.....He's getting a lot of playing time
out there lately and it seems to be going well.
Reese
Kaplan - None of the above -- I'd cut Batista and take more
time to see the three outfielders -- Nieuwenhuis, Torres and Baxter -- playing
at the Major League level. Then decide
who goes (and promote either James, Egbert or Cabrera).

You have to leave Captain Kirk in CF and atleast start 5 days a week. As previously mentioned, this year means nothing and we're trying to rebuild. Let's see what this kid has over a stretch of time and keep Torres as our 4th OF/part time LF with Bay platoon against tough righties.
Keep Valdespin playing CF in AAA (my idea by the way-check the old posts from 2010 to verify) so this way he can be used as a Joe McEwing/Ruben Gotay type role where he could literally start everyday of the week at a different position kinda role. If he ever plays well enough to command a starting role at SS/2B, that's great, but I would groom him to play multiple roles at the major league level.
Strangely enough when you asked this question I'd already written an entire blog entry about it (see below). Consider Andres Torres "Wally Pipp"ed at this point.
the question I asked the members of "Mack and Company" were asked before you joined the site... it just took a few days to gather up each person's thoughts
