In Focus - Tylor Megill - Yesterday's Highlights

Thomas Nestico                 @TJStats

Tylor Megill had a wild start today as he struck out 7 and walked 3 in 4.0 IP

Megill struggled to find the zone early before settling in and generating a ton of whiffs. The stuff is excellent and his smaller arsenal seems to be working!

Pitch Profiler                      @pitchprofiler

Walks and deep counts kept Megill from going deep into the game, but ultimately it was the Mets' defense that couldn’t pick him up.

The stuff is legit — 140 proStuff+ on the fastball is absurd. It’s Cylor from here on out.

YESTERDAY

Mets rally falls short in 4-2 loss to IronPigs on Wednesday night

The Syracuse Mets’ offense went quiet in a 4-2 loss to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on an uneventful Wednesday night at Coca Cola Park.

With Blade Tidwell on the mound, Syracuse (3-7) struggled out of the gates against a red-hot IronPigs offense that entered Wednesday leading the International League with 63 runs. Lehigh Valley (9-2) got two runners on in the bottom of the first inning when Otto Kemp got hit by a pitch and Gabriel Rincones Jr. doubled. Garrett Stubbs knocked in the pair with a two-run single that put the IronPigs in front, 2-0.

Tidwell bounced back in the second, retiring the side in order, but struggled again in the third. The Pigs added to the lead when Kemp walked, stole second base, moved to third on a wild pitch, and was driven in by a Buddy Kennedy RBI single to make it 3-0.

Binghamton Drops Both to Hartford in Home-Opening Doubleheader

Game One: Yard Goats 4, Rumble Ponies 0 (Final/7)

Binghamton right-hander Jonathan Pintaro (0-1) allowed two runs in the first inning when Zach Kokoska drew an RBI walk and Juan Guerrero hit into a double play.

Game Two: Yard Goats 5, Rumble Ponies 3 (Final/7)

Binghamton took the lead in the bottom of the first against left-hander Mason Green. Center fielder Nick Morabito recorded his first Double-A hit and then stole second base. Designated hitter Ryan Clifford followed with an RBI double that made it 1-0.

Mets outlast Flying Tigers 13-8 in 11 innings

Alvarez goes 1 for 3, catches 5 innings in first rehab game

The St. Lucie Mets won a marathon contest 13-8 in 11 innings over the Lakeland Flying Tigers on Wednesday night at Joker Marchant Stadium. The game clocked in at 3 hours and 59 minutes, which is the longest game for St. Lucie since the return of the pitch clock in 2022. Jeremy Rodriguez gave the Mets the lead for good with a RBI single in the 11th inning to put the Mets up 8-7. Two batters later Colin Houck pinch hit and ripped a three-run double down the left field line to break the game open and give the Mets an 11-7 lead. Houck would score from third base on a passed ball. Trace Willhoite capped the inning with a RBI triple that made it 13-7. Willhoite went 4 for 6 with the triple and three RBI. A.J. Ewing sparked a three-run rally in the eighth inning in which the Mets entered trailing 5-2. He hit a RBI double in the frame and went on to score the tying run. Ewing went 4 for 5 with a pair of doubles, a walk and four runs scored. He’s batting .500 on the season. New York Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez (left hand) started the game on rehab assignment and caught the first five innings as scheduled. He finished 1 for 3 with a single and a strikeout.

Catcher Luis Torrens underwent an MRI yesterday on his bruised right forearm. That came back negative. The Mets expect Torrens to be ready to play sooner rather than later, but it remains a day-to-day situation.

Tylor Megill threw eight consecutive balls to open today's game, then struck out three of the next four batters he faced. Of the 28 pitches Megill threw, only one was put into play.

Jonathan Santucci's first career strike out victim is Yankees top prospect George Lombard Jr. 1 inning 1 hit 0 runs 0 walks 1 k. Eli Serrano guns out the runner at the plate (looks like Avina has been tossed arguing the call but I'm watching without volume currently... Jonathan Santucci 3 innings 2 hits 0 runs 0 walks 5 k's (43 pitches/31 strikes… pro debut is in the books. 4 innings 6 hits 2 runs 0 walks 5 k's.

Eli Serrano now 2-3, 2 steals, 2 runners thrown out at the plate

Juan Soto has asked for his car back

Ryan Lambert can go 98-100. With pitch command he's probably IMO to start the first wave of promotions at some point...

Mets IF prospect Boston Baro has officially entered the chat for the 2025 milb season. Probably a potential top 5 Mets prospect in a couple years.

Mets 21 yr old C/LF prospect Chris Suero has 6 XBH through his first 5 games played in High A.

97 mph high heat for a 2nd inn K for St Lucie Mets P Raimon Gomez… currently sitting 99 MPH in the 1st inning right now… 3rd inning 98 mph K and it's his last pitch of a successful outing in Low A.

Mets 20 yr old P prospect Wellington Aracena is in the game for Low A St. Lucie Mets and he's topped 100 mph so there's that.

Mets Prospect Group                   @bkfan09

Recently signed Mets IFA Prospect Angel Montero is giving  Dontrelle Willis vibes , Montero listed at 6’4” 165 lbs… Ben Badler reports Angel Montero signed for $175K

Mark Vientos letting too many good pitches to hit go by him early on this season

LHP David Medina making his pro debut in the DSL This summer . Medina will be fun to watch as he has a very funky delivery

Aracena and Gomez did well last night, too.

Good to see Houck come thru. Maybe that will boost him.

Megill pitched well but those bases on balls can hurt you, and it got his pitch count up quickly. Shoddy defense did him in. The bottom six in the order better start hitting soon. Lindor, Soto and Alonso can't do it all. Winker had a good game, Marte shows flashes and Nimmo, after those two home runs in Miami has disappeared. I don't even want to talk about Vientos and Baty. Shite or get off the pot

You need a pot to piss in before you shite in it

I cut Megill slack, pitching in that cold, breezy weather. I continue to think he will have a big year.

Highest whiff% in the league last night

That really is something. While it spans 2024 and 2025, his last several outings of 2024 and first few of 2025 are collectively SP2 or SP3 stuff. There will be a real logjam at pitching when Manaea and Montas return. "Like nothing we've ever seen before."

Vientos and Baty? I will say one more time today, if you guys read the stuff here, and you should, GET AGGRESSIVE! Don't try to work the pitcher - they are working YOU! Attack on all hittable pitches in the strike zone.

Let's see how well they do in warmer Sacramento.

The only thing that bothered me about Megill's start yesterday was the look on his face when things went poorly. He used to have a calm demeanor no matter what happened out there and it helped him ride through rough spots. Keep a quiet mind, Tylor, and trust your stuff.
