After a very brief hiatus, I thought I'd return to Mets writing, but with a "Tidbit" article series, that is, a series of very short articles, because I am very preoccupied, but I also can write very quickly, so short, "tidbit" articles of narrow focus will take just a matter of minutes, and not overly interfere with my other preoccupying preoccupations.
That said:
It ALWAYS comes down to pitching, when it comes to the Mets.
And brings to mind two minor league pitchers of note:
1) Nolan McLean:
I am, as we all are, very hopeful that Brandon Sproat will be a successful MLB starting pitcher.
I am VERY CONFIDENT that McLean will be a successful one.
Nolan is a honed, strong athlete, with a high velo heater and incredible breaking stuff. I sense that he is a complete bulldog, too. He's had two excellent outings this year. I expect him to move towards the majors very rapidly from his current perch in AA.
He may just be the best Nolan the Mets have had in over 50 years.
And he'd give Pete Alonso a run for his $$ in the HR Derby.
2) Anthony Nunez:
The Mets picked up this hitter-turned-pitcher. Now 23 and in Brooklyn, all he has done so far in 3 outings is:
4.2 IP, 0 hits, 2 walks, 11 Ks. WHAT!!!!
That's sick, in a good way. "Good-sick" is nice to have on your side. One to watch. Dedniel has competition. I know nothing about Anthony except for those lethal early numbers. So, help me keep an eye on him.
3) The Obverse:
Obverse is defined as "a counterpart having the opposite orientation or force."
That describes speedy Omar De Los Santos (45 steals in 98 games in 2024, despite a .277 OBP).
He has had a huge career K problem before 2025. It is now even worse.
In spring training and the regular minor league season, he is 1 for 22, with 16 Ks. That screams to me:
"Wrong occupation."
I understand fully, though....I miss a lot, too. "What you say?"
I wonder if the red-hot Drew Gilbert's imminent return from A ball rehab to AAA will be the end of the career of Omar, who makes Jose Siri seem like a high contact hitter by comparison.

Great to see Tom's thoughts in writing again! Here's an idea - let's get Omar De Los Santos switched to pitching. He's a strong arm outfielder! Then when he racks up K's we will rejoice!

Omar needs to go the way of Nomar…into retirement.
The anti-Siri, Jake Mangum, is hitting .311 in 45 Rays at bats, with just 5 Ks and 7 steals. How would THAT have looked in the Mets lineup, instead of Taylor and Siri’s combined 7 for 58? Should have never let Jake go.
John, I don’t know what else Nunez throws, but his first 10 outs in the video, all strikeouts, were on fast change ups and curves. I wonder what his max velocity is.
For St. Lucie last year he was around 96-98 if I remember correctly.
John, maybe Mack can find Thomas Nestico(?) for stats on his FB. If he is 96-98, he could surge.
