7/9/12

The Cyclones lost game two of the three game series with the Jamestown Jammers by a score of 5-2.

Luis Cessa had pitched a good game, but made a couple of costly mistakes that contributed to him getting the loss. Going into the third inning, Cessa had not surrendered a hit until Juancito Martinez hit a one-out home run that bounced off the left field light pole just beyond the wall for the first run of the game, giving the Jammers a one-run lead.

Jammers pitcher Helpi Reyes cruised through the first four innings as he gave up only one hit and zero walks. The fifth inning was a different story, however, as the Cyclones bats started to wake up. Cole Frenzel led off the inning by ripping a line drive down the line that the first baseman dove for and corralled to get the first out. Kevin Plawecki would then come up and rip a single to right, followed up by a single from Stefan Sabol. With runners on first and second, Jayce Boyd continued his hot hitting as he ripped a single just past by the diving attempt of first baseman Viosergy Rosa to score Plawecki and move Sabol to third. It seemed as though this would shape up to be a big inning as Jonathan Clark would walk to load the bases with one out, but Reyes was able to escape further trouble; however, not before the Cyclones knotted the game up at 1-1.

The game would not remain tied for long though, as the Jammers would retake the lead in the top of the sixth. After a leadoff walk to Yefri Perez and a bunt by Pedro Mendoza that catcher Kevin Plawecki threw to second to try and get Perez out on was unsuccessful, runners were on first and second with nobody out. The next batter would be Rosa, who singled to left, scoring Perez and giving the Jammers a 2-1 lead. After a double play and a hit batter, Beck Wheeler would come in and prevent any further damage. The Jammers would tack on three more runs in the seventh inning credited to Wheeler as the Jammers would win by a score of 5-2.

The Cyclones would put up a run in the ninth inning, but weren’t able to muster enough runs to win or force the game into extra innings.
