fires gem in third
rehab start
Before we get going tonight on the minor league
games.
Do you notice that we seem to be mentioning the
same five of six players every night? The fact is most teams have less than 10
exciting players in their system. The John Sickles rating system remains the
best, which seperates the best prospects into various “A” or “B” ratings.
The Mets have around six (around six more too
early to grade out) and here comes some of the same names:
AAA – Buffalo:
RHP Collin McHugh will make his sixth start with the
Bisons today. The 25-year old is coming off his first Triple-A victory as he
allowed just three runs (one earned) in 5.1 innings of work against the Yankees
on the Sunday before the All-Star break. McHugh has posted a 2.30ERA and 16
strikeouts in 15.2 innings of work over his last three starts.
The Bisons have scored
seven or more runs in five straight games. The last time the Herd accomplished
that feat was when they scored seven or more in seven straight games, May 30 -
June 5, 2005. However, the Bisons were just 4-3 over that stretch in 2005
despite scoring 73 runs in seven games.
Today –
Loss, 4-5, 14 inning
walk-off
Jason
Bay - 2-for-4 with walk and steal
Manny Acosta (1.59), Fernando
Cabrera (3.22), and Elvin Ramirez (2.10)
– 6.0-IP, 0-R, 4-H, 2-K, 1-BB
Matt den
Dekker just can’t get off the AAA-pot. 1-7 today, driving his BA down to .209. Also,
three more strike outs. That’s 40-Ks in 129-AB. You can do the math. A scout
told me today: “he’s just lost out there… this is a completely different player
than the one that played in Binghamton (.340) earlier this season.
Right now, there really
isn’t any other every day players in Buffalo that project as a starter someday
for the Mets. I still project 1B/2B Josh Satin in
the Mike Carp stage off his career and needs a
new team to blossom with.
AA-Binghamton:
RHP Gonzalez Germen (5-6, 4.27) makes his 11th start as a
B-Met and first against the SeaWolves. The righty earned the win in his last
start, defeating the Altoona Curve on July 8. Germen went a season-best 7.1
innings while allowing five runs on five hits. He walked five and struck out
one in a game the B-Mets would win 10-9. Germen was promoted from St. Lucie
(High-A) on May 4 after going 3-0 with a 3.04 ERA in five games (four starts)
with St. Lucie.
LHP Kelvin De La Cruz (5-7, 4.30) makes his 17th start of
the season and fourth against the B-Mets. De La Cruz took a no-decision in his
last start against the Harrisburg Senators on July 7th, allowing two runs on
eight hits over 5.2 innings. He struck out four and walked two in a game the
SeaWolves would lose 5-3 in ten innings. In three starts versus Binghamton the
Dominican Republic native has gone 0-2 with a 6.08 ERA. The B-Mets have hit
.234 against him as a team. De La Cruz spent the first seven years of his pro
career in the Cleveland Indians system. He was claimed off waivers by the
Tigers in late March 2012. He spending parts of three seasons with the Akron
Aeros.
