Daily Mets Minors Report – 7-21-12

Date: 7-21-12

North Korea leader to reform economy after top General purged, creates political bureau to take control of economy from military

Morgan Freeman‏- Sometimes this world can truly be a horrifying place. They just wanted to see a damn movie

This will be a shorter version this morning – spent last night with Savannah and got in late. Also, have an interview with Mets pitching coach Frank Viola and another post on various minor league notes.

MLB –

Jon Heyman

Padres are going to try to sign Quentin and Street. so presumably, no trades for them for now

Joel Sherman -

Acquiring a controllable reliever would provide the Mets with a long-term bullpen option but, it won’t be easy to complete a deal.

Clay Bucholz since May 27: 51.1 IP, 2.63 ERA, 45/9 K/BB

Phillies prospect Tyson Gillies, who was arrested two years ago for cocaine possession before the charges were eventually dropped, has been suspended indefinitely by Double-A Reading. Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com reports that Gillies “violated a team policy” and the situation has nothing to do with his previous arrest, but for the second time in three seasons the 23-year-old outfielder who came to the Phillies from the Mariners in the Cliff Lee swap will have to put his development on hold.

MLB - Mets:

John Ricco - “We're watching every day the same thing people are, but you also can't fool yourself into thinking that there's one guy that is going to be the be-all and end-all solution to all of our problems. You can fall into that trap and make some big mistakes. It's one of the good things about having an experienced guy like Sandy. He's been down this road before.”

Sandy Alderson said  the Mets basically aren’t willing to part with any of their top-tier prospects, essentially only those in Class A.

AAA – Buffalo:

Last night – L, 0-4

Excellent game pitched by Charlotte’s Simon Castro (5.0-IP, 1-H).

SP Collin McHugh was okay… 6.0-IP, 3-R… but RP Jenrry Mejia was better… 2.0-IP, 0-R, 1-H… the relief kid is coming around…

CF Matt den Dekker is back to the leadoff spot, but once again went 0-3 (.209).

Buffalo only had two hits, one each from C Ron Johnson (.201) and SS Oswaldo Navarro (.243).

AA-Binghamton:

Last night – L, 0-10 – Ouch (Mets teams so far 0-14)

Must we talk pitching?  Zack Wheeler – 3.2-IP, 8-ER, 6-K, 3-BB… unhitch the wagons…

Gary Seagren called me at the game and said they had pulled Wheeler. I thought he meant they scratched him. I told Michael Fuller that and wished him well on his journey. How embarrassing.

2B Reese Havens – 1-3, .232

DH Mike Baxter rehabbed – 0-4

LF Eric Campbell – 1-4, .317

A+ - St. Lucie: -

Last night – L, 1-4… (1-18)

Boy, I didn’t miss anything, did I?

SP Angel Cuan crawled through another one… 5.2-IP, 4-ER, 4-K, 1-BB, 3.49… Taylor Whitenton (.06) and John Church (3.27) combined for 2.2 scorelessiniings.

A run!

Scored by CF Alonzo Harris (CF) on a single, stolen base, and wild pitch in the 9th.

Only Lucy hit… what a night.

A – Savannah: -

Tonight – L, 2-3…  (3-21)

Good job by SP Alex Panteliodis, but we’ll talk about that in another post today.

The Gnats fell one run short in the 8th… 2-run homer by 3B Dustin Lawley  (.266), his 10th of the season.

A-Low – Brooklyn:

Tonight – L, 2-4… (5-25)

SP Luis Mateo is human!  - 6.0-IP, 4-ER, 4-BB, 3.67 – shit happens

Beck Wheeler (8.18) and Ernest Yanez (1.98) combined for three mop-up scoreless innings.

C Kevin Plawecki – 3-3, BB, double, RBI, .234

SS Phillip Evans – 3-5, .242

Rookie – Kingsport:

Double-dip

Game 1 – WIN!   2-0

Okay, it’s ready to send Steve Matz to Brooklyn or somewhere a playoff is going to be played – Another gem:: 6.0-IP, 0-R, 2-H, 9-K, 1.96 – (I’m going to talk to him later on today). Remember, he’s structurally 100%, ‘sitting’ 96-97, hitting 99, and just turned 21.

Not much hitting… didn’t need it.

Game 2 – ANOTHER WIN – 2-1

SP Persio Reyes got back on the train – 6.1-IP, 1-ER, 8.59

Only four K-Port hits…

Rookie - DSL Mets:

PH – Miquel Leaf – 0-1, .329

P Gaby Almonte – 2.2-IP, 1-ER, 1.52

C Adrian Abreu – 1-1, .326
