MLB - Mets:
Has David Wright ever been thrown out of a game?
Jim
Callis - Q: Any thoughts on whether the #Mets will sign 2nd rounder Teddy Stankiewicz…
A: If they took him that high,
they'll sign him. ……………..
Mets 2nd
round pick - Matt Reynolds' - bonus was $525k (pick
value=$723,600). 3B w/good bat, gap power, average run, solid defense
Sandy
Alderson - "Wright vs. Sandoval: A city
of 8 million was outvoted by a city of 800,000."
Mike Hessman has hit his 25th Home Run of the year
at AAA Oklahoma City
Brian Costa - A new ownership group bought the
Dodgers from Frank McCourt for $2.15 billion in a deal that closed on May 1,
less than two months after the Wilpon family sold $240 million worth of
minority shares in the Mets. This weekend, then, was merely a showcase for
baseball, which comes as a welcome change for both teams. They entered Sunday
with identical records, at 43-36, and in second place in their respective
divisions. "New York and L.A. are very good for baseball, and I think two
good teams in New York and one good team in L.A. -- and one not very far away
in Anaheim -- those are all good things for baseball," Dodgers president
Stan Kasten said.
AAA – Buffalo:
Matt Harvey, RHP, Mets (Triple-A Buffalo) - We've now entered July, and the Mets continue
to scrap their way towards the top of the National League East standings. It's
time to start thinking about moves, and one of them might be internal. Harvey
continues to look better as the season wears on, including seven two-hit
innings on Friday with nine strikeouts. In April, he had a 4.85 ERA. In May, he
lowered that to 3.24, and in six June starts, it was 2.45 with 40 strikeouts in
33 innings. The Mets shouldn't sacrifice their future to deal for a starter
when their turn-around is ahead of schedule, so promoting a free upgrade in
Harvey could be appealing in the second half. - http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=17552
Wally Backman
did not rule out the
possibility of a demotion to Double-A Binghamton for Jeurys
Familia.
The Buffalo Bisons have
begun constructing the concert stage in the Bully Hill Right Field Party Deck
in preparation for their 18th annual Independence Eve Celebration with the
Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus on Tuesday, July 3 at Coca-Cola
Field.
LHSP Garrett Olson pitched Monday night, his 17th start of
the season. In his last time out on June 27, Olson captured his third win of
the season against Louisville (6.1IP, 7H, 3ER, 5K) to improve his season record
to 3-4. The southpaw is currently 3-0 with a 4.35ERA in eight starts against
non-divisional opponents.
Josh Satin has hit .333 (26-78) with 13RBI and
18 runs scored in 22 games since rejoining the Herd on June 9. Satin has
reached base in 11 straight games. In six contests versus Durham this season,
Satin has slugged three home runs and driven in eight RBI, while batting .556
(13-23).
Tonight… 2B Jordany Valdeshmuck (.289) decided to run tonight…
three successful stolen bases…
AA-Binghamton:
RHP Gonzalez Germen (4-5, 4.06) makes his ninth start as a
B-Met and second against the Curve. Germen had his three-game winning streak
snapped in a loss in his most recent start versus the Bowie Baysox on June 27.
The righty allowed four runs on six hits and struck out three over five
innings. Germen defeated the Curve on June 15, surrendering three runs (one
earned) on eight hits over six innings. He struck out six and did not issue a
walk. Germen was promoted from St. Lucie (High-A) on May 4 after going 3-0 with
a 3.04 ERA in five games (four starts) with St. Lucie.
RHP Gerrit Cole (1-1, 7.50) makes his third start as a
member of the Curve. The righty lost his previous start against the Harrisburg
Senators on June 26. He was pulled after one inning after being struck by a
line drive. He surrendered three runs on five hits and struck out two in his
only frame. Cole won his Double-A debut on June 20 against the New Britain Rock
Cats. The California native was the first overall pick in last year’s draft,
signing for a club-record $8 million He made his pro debut this year with the
Bradenton Marauders (High-A). The righty went 5-1 with a 2.55 ERA in 13 starts
before getting promoted to Altoona in mid-June.
Altoona’s Gerrit Cole (4.63) “sat” 98-99.
3B Wilmer Flores (.383) had his first two AA errors. 2B Reese Havens (.209) had his 7th error.
A+ - St. Lucie: -
C Blake Forsythe (.275) continues to impress, with a
2-run double.
A – Savannah:
Game 1:
SP Marco Camerena didn’t
have his best outing, but he still went home with a seasonal 1.87 ERA.
Carlos Vasquez (5-1, 2.96)
and T.J. Chism (13-SV, 2.93) combined for 2.2
scoreless innings.
A game without Gnat errors.
SS Matt Reynolds (.250)
(who doesn’t play short for this organization?) hit his first professional home
run.
Wow. CF Gilbert Gomez (.289)
batting third.
Game 2:
3B Aderlin Rodriguez (.268)
hit his 13th home run… he’s only 20-years old.
SP Domingo Tapia impressed,
giving up only two hits in 5.2 innings.
Savannah had this game in the bag but then they gave up
four runs in the 7th …
Augusta had a walk off in the 9th and,
frankly, they deserved the win.
A-Low – Brooklyn:
SP Luis Cessa had it all going together for the first 45
pitched… then he went down in flames in the 4th inning.
Eudy Pena hit an early homer. Remember… this is
NOT a home run park.
Welcome to Brooklyn,
Jayce Boyd… doubled on his first at bat, scoring a run. Nice.
RP Darwin Frias (5.79) had an impressive strikeout to get
out of the fifth, but he was all over the place throughout the inning. I’m
guessing close to 30 pitches in one inning. Not good.
It’s so hard to watch
SS Phillip Evans (.293) and realize he’s just 19
years old. He is so going to be an all-star.
An impressive 6th
inning by RP Beck Wheeler (10.80). Had both his
curve and change-up sick and struck out the side. And then came the 7th
inning…
Saw Juan Urbina for the first time this year. Loved Bobby Ojeda’s comments. He’s just not pitching with edge,
nor is he following through. Juan was supposed to be a big time prospect, and,
he is only 20, but it’s not working here…
Rookie – Kingsport:
Boy, there’s always a
train wreck in Tennessee...
K-Port opened up with
four runs in the first inning… key hit was a triple by DH Jeff Diehl (.262) with the bases loaded…
Then, starter Steve Matz (2.2-IP, 4-BB, 1-throwing error, 4.09) gave
three back…
P Corey Oswalt turned
some heads ( I loved this pick) with four hitless innings.
