Buster Olney reports that the Mets are going to use R.A. Dickey more frequently in the second half of the season.

Jason Bay participated in full BP in Queens and heads out of town Friday for his rehab session.

AAA – Buffalo:

And, in the WTF department… P Chris Schwinden is back in Buffalo.

RHP Dylan Owen returns to the Bisons’ active roster after missing 14 games due to a right elbow impingement. The healthy righty last pitched on June 20 at Norfolk and allow one run in four innings of work. Owen is 2-3 with a 5.35ERA in his eight previous starts this season.

Tonight:

1B (?) Adam Loewen hit a 3-run HR in the 6-run 2^nd inning that gave this game its definition. What the hell is Loewen playing first for? Who’s next, Schwinden?

1B Josh Satin (.288) hit his 8^th HR… wait, I thought Loewen was on first? He was but Satin moved over from third. Now, what the hell was Satin doing on third?

AA-Binghamton:  

Wilmer Flores, 3B, Mets: It may seem to prospect watchers like he's been around forever, but Flores is still just 20 years old. RHP Zack Wheeler (7-4, 2.74) makes his 15th start of the season and the first against his former organization. He suffered the loss in his last start against the Altoona Curve on June 30. He allowed a career-high seven runs on nine hits over 6.2 innings. He walked three and struck out five. Wheeler was traded from the San Francisco Giants to the Mets in exchange for Carlos Beltran in July 2011. The righty has allowed eleven earned runs over his last two starts, 42% of his total in 2012.

RHP Chris Heston (6-3, 1.89) takes the hill for his 17th start of the season. Heston is on a four-game winless streak, taking the no-decision in his last start against the Akron Aeros on June 30.  He allowed four runs (three earned) on a season-high eight hits over 4.1 innings. It was his shortest outing of the season, outside of a two-inning performance on June 1 that was cut short due to a lengthy rain delay. Heston has surrendered eleven earned runs in his last three starts, 55% of his 2012 total. Selected in the 12th round of the 2009 draft out of East Carolina University and is in his fourth year in the Giants system.

LHP Mark Cohoon transferred from Buffalo (AAA) to Binghamton (AA)

RHP Erik Turgeon placed on the disabled list (left shin contusion)

Tonight:

It seems to be ‘who wants to play first base’ in the system tonight. First in was Adam Loewen at AAA. Now, it’s Wilmer Flores.

Another signature start for Wheeler: 7.1-IP, 1-R, 6-H, 6-K, 0-BB, ERA back to 2.24. Good sign after two bad outings.

Okay, another quality start for Rafael Montero, who is quickly reaching prospect status – 7.0-IP, 4-H, 1-R, 4-K, 3-BB, 2.79. He’s 21-years old folks, but he’s only got 69-Ks in a combined 90.2-IP at A/A+. Only 14-BB.

LF Travis Taijerson’s A+ bat is beginning to wake up: 3-hits, .262.

3B Zach Lutz didn’t get hurt.

A-Low – Brooklyn:

Tonight:

You can’t win games if you make four errors a game, especially if three of them are by someone playing out of position. The Cyclones have Dimas Ponce and Jeff Reynolds, so why is Alexander Sanchez playing third base?

SP Rainy Lara gave up too many runs (4), but still threw 9-Ks in 5.0-IP. That’s now 23-Ks in 15.2-IP, He’s 21-years old, folks.
