MLB - Mets:
Frank
Francisco (DL, left oblique) will throw off a mound Saturday, then make at least
four rehab appearances before returning to the Mets. Jason Bay will report to
Port St. Lucie Friday, Collins said. – AR
AAA – Buffalo:
Jeurys
Familia takes the mound tonight for his 18th
start of the season. The righty is coming off a loss against Durham on July 1.
On the road, Familia is 4-2 with a 3.89ERA and 37 strikeouts in 37.0 innings of
work. He struck out a season-high eight batters the last time he faced
Syracuse. On April 22, Familia allowed just one run in five innings in a 6-1
Bisons win.
Tonight -
Familia seems to like
pissing off Mets fans as well as writers. Every time we write this guy off as a
starter, he throws a gem like last night: 6.1-IP, 5-H, 1-R, 5-K, 1-BB, 96-61. Everything
worked well, including his curve. Go figure.
How would you like to
have to face someone like Familia for six innings and then have Jenrry Mejia to deal with? 2.0-IP, 0-R, 0-H.
And then… Chris Schwinden. Weird fucking game sometimes.
SS Josh Rodriguez keeps
trying to prove to people he’s the real deal: 2-4, 4th HR, 3-RBI,
.339.
CF Matt den Dekker - .190.
AA-Binghamton:
LHP Mark Cohoon (3-7, 4.11) makes his 13th start as a
B-Met and his 15th overall this season. The lefty recently returned from a
two-start stint with the Buffalo Bisons (AAA). In two games, both against the
Durham Bulls, Cohoon was tagged for 13 runs on 16 hits over eight innings. He
went 0-1, struck out four, walked three and allowed an opponents’ batting
average of .400 in his time in the International League. Cohoon is searching
for his first win overall since May 27 when he allowed one run over seven
innings against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
LHP Mike Kickham (6-6, 2.81) makes his 17th start of the
season. He comes off a win against the Akron Aeros on July 1. The Missouri
native struck out seven over six shutout innings. It was the fourth time this
season he has gone six innings or longer without allowing a run. In five starts
in June, Kickham went 2-1 with a 1.84 ERA. He struck out 28 but also walked 16
in 29.1 innings, allowing a .190 opponents’ batting average. Selected in the
6th round of the 2010 draft out of Missouri State University, Kickham is in his
first season at Double-A. He pitched last season with the Augusta GreenJackets
(Low-A) and skipped over High-A.
Tonight –
Cohoon had a great
outing (7.0-IP, 1-R, 5-H,, 3-K, 1-BB), but he’s pitching a level lower that he’s
supposed to be dominating. So far this season Mark has a combined 5.15 ERA in
AAA/AA/ That’s not dominating anything.
Inch by inch… 2B Reese Havens: 1-2, .221… last 10 games: .278
Top pop prospect, 3B Wilmer Flores, hit his 2nd AA HR (.390).
A+ - St. Lucie: -
Tonight –
I really liked RP Taylor Whitenton’s outing
Friday night (2.2-IP, 0-H, 4-K, 1-BB). Doesn’t get much better than that.
A – Savannah: -
ZeErika
McQueen retired.
Jeremy Gould was reinstated from the Savannah DL.
Tonight –
Possibly the best minor
league game of the year.
Michael
Fulmer (7.0-IP, 2-H) and Matt Bashore (6.0-IP,
2-H) threw goose eggs all night. They were joined by three more pitches that
threw 5.0 more scoreless innings.
3B Aderlin Rodriguez ended all this 0-0 nonsense with a
lead-off, walk-off HR (15th).
This might be Fulmer’s
last Savannah start. I will be sitting next to him today behind home plate for
the first game of the doubleheader.
A-Low – Brooklyn:
Tonight –
Another tied game after
nine, but this one was 6-6. SP Gabriel Ynoa (6.0-IP,
6-ER, 8-H, 3.75) got knocked around pretty good.
We should keep an eye
of RP David Wynn… 2.0-IP, 0-H tonight, 0.96
after five professional game.
Same goes for John Mincone (2.0-IP, 0-H, 0.82) after five games
also.
Two hits for Brandon Nimmo tonight… hitting over .200 (.203)… woo…
Rookie – Kingsport:
Doubleheader
tonight -
Game 1:

season.
Game 2:
5-4 loss… P Andrew Massie’s first professional game: 2.0-I, 1-H,
0-R, 2-K, 2-BB, 0.00… three more hits from Peguero (.379)…
Team overall record -
4-14
DSL Mets:
CF John Mora – 2-5,
1-R, 2-doubles, 3-RBI, .300
